My wife is in charge of a new project, she has to implement several new servers for her work. Currently they name each server with a sports car brand.

She has asked me to come up with a 9 new names, I have a few so far
Ferrari
Bugatti
Lamborghini
Lotus
Bentley
Mercedes
Corvette
Rolls Royce
Maserati
Aston Martin

And for the problem servers:
Fiat
Peugeot

Any other suggestions? Porsche is all they could come up with, if we included specific cars this list could get pretty long, especially with the problem models:
Pinto, Pacer, Chevette, matador

As a mainframe guy, might I suggest they start naming them after mushrooms?

I would add Jaguar and BMW for the high performance servers. For the problem servers, these three might be appropriate -

Ford
GM
Chrysler

How about Tesla, the hot new electric sports car? 220 mile range, 0 to 60 mph in under 4 seconds!

. . . to get access? If so, you might want to stick to ones that are common knowledge or easily spelled. "Lamborghini" is gonna get misspelled fairly often . . .

If you name them after sports cars you're going to have a long list of problem servers and a very short list of reliable ones. That's just the nature of the beast.

My company used the simpsons.

We have Mo, Marge, Smithers, Homer...etc.

The server named Bart has crashed twice so we retired that name.

I can't believe nobody suggested MG - when it starts it's great, but make sure you have a spare fuel pump, coil, starter, throttle cable etc. and all the tools to install it in the car if the going gets tough.

David Lucas, founder of Lucas electronics which did all the electronics for the great Brit Marques - Jag, MG, Triumph, AC, Austin Martin etc. is known as the prince of darkness.

Not sure whether the MG server would be a good server or a problem server.

Let me refresh your memory. The intake was directly over the exhaust manifold, and SU carbs tended to leak. If you have a server with a tendency to burst into flames, name it MG. Oh yeh, they changed from positive ground (what they called "earth") to negative ground at some point in 1972, mid production year.

Lucas also made most British refrigerators. That is why they got used to warm beer.

That's why there's no British astronauts. As they were climbing aboard the first British rocket ship, they saw the sign: "Electrics by Lucas".

Good one! Hah! I had to make a choice with the 72 GT6 I used to own: Windshield Wipers or Headlights. Couldn't run 'em both..
