I'm in Austin for the week to perform at SXSW.
Got loads of riding time . Help a brother out.
Group rides, epic loops not to be missed?
Come one , come all , let me know.
ps- Has Crumpton got a shop or does he just work out of a private studio(Hint visit?)?

thanks

It's a 5-kilometer paved cycling track in South Austin. Go south on Mopac past Slaughter Lane. Turn left at the next stop light at La Crosse Ave. Go about a quarter mile down the road and see the entryway on the left. Awesome track. And it's free!

Two-three of us are riding in Fredericksburg starting Wednesday afternoon on through the 22nd. We'll start out Wednesday-Friday doing 40-50 milers, easy pace but hilly and then step it up to 50-75 on Saturday, Sunday, and next Monday...after that who knows! On the Thursday rides we'll do about 40 in the morning, take a break and come back with a little conversational-paced evening ride followed with a meal at Hondo's, sort of burgers and beer. Usually about 10-15 people on this one, all ages, both sexes, and all levels of fitness. We sometimes break it into A and B riders depending on how fast you want to pedal. F-burg is about 70 miles west of Austin and takes about 90 minutes to drive to depending on the outbound traffic...pm if you need more information.

I live in Austin and would happily take you out for some miles Thursday late morning or Friday morning and you could connect for a number of club rides on Saturday or Sunday. PM me and let me know how much time you have, when you could go, etc.

daylight savings time is back and the tuesday nighter should be rolling. i think there used to be a group that rolled out from the coffee shop on south congress just south of the river near hotel san jose. the coffee shop is just a couple minutes from downtown. it takes about 40 minutes to ride to the start from downtown.

try calling bicycle sport shop or nelo's pro bikes for directions or see link below. starts at 6PM, at least most times...could be early if it's the first one of the year. 3 or 4 laps of a rolling 9 mile loop.

expect 50-70 people. there used to be two groups. used to live there, but haven't done one in a few years but it's been rolling since the 70's.

directions:

have fun!

Welcome to Austin and SXSW!

How about a race while you're in town? Thursday will be this year's first "driveway" crit. It began last year and is a blast. Details are at

http://teamhotelsanjose.com/thsjcorp/Portals/0/2008Driveway.pdf .

Be sure to check out Ginny's Little Longhorn for some good honkey-tonk while you're in town.

Cheers,

Sat. Am Austin Flyers Ride leaving from Bicycle Sport Shop North location at 8:30 am, about 35 miles of hills and rollers. Good group.

Sun. AM Austin Flyers Ride leaving from Bicycle Sport Shop South location, same time as Sat. and 45+ of mostly flat with some rollers.

What do you ride? I will watch for you. :)

See if you can reach Alexis at Bicycle Sport Shop or weisan through the forum.

If you get hold of weisan, see if he can take you on the Johnson City loop. A very pretty ride with nice scenery and interesting terrain.

It starts at Braker, which is north (I live south). I've been meaning to give it a try, although it would be a pain to drive on Mopac in late afternoon.

Is this the best "Tuesday Night" course in Austin?

EMailed with Nick Crumpton for a sec and it looks like we are gonna meet up, ride and look at bikes at some point. Ill make sure to take the camera and post pics of his amazing work .

A group of cyclists meet at the Pure Austin on the corner of Lamar Blvd. and West Sixth St. They ride to the Tuesday night course, which is in southeast Austin. The name of the street where the course starts may be Saxton.

I erroneously mentioned the other Pure Austin that is in the north side of town located on a street called Braker. My apologies for providing the wrong information.

I just got off the phone with the Pure AUstin Baker location seeing what time the ride( or if ) it left there.
They knew nothing about it but told me i was welcome to come take a spin class.. Ha.

Looking for a 75 to 100 mile route tomorrow. Im staying northwest , off 183 near Oak Knoll.
Any thoughts anyone?
Id like to roll from my hotel if at all possible and not afraid to ride on a few busy roads if i have to .
thanks 4 all the help

I called the Braker location myself to get specific information, and they said that someone else had just called asking the same question. Must have been you. Sorry about that. It's the other location where the cyclists meet. And even then, it's not where the actual course is located. They ride out to it. Sorry again for posting bad info.

And feeling good enough after a night out on Austin, try the Austin Tri-Cyclist ride. It leaves out of Austin Tri-Cyclist (www.austintricyclist.com) on Barton Springs (just across the river from downtown) at around 8:15. It is a fast, fun, semi-hilly ride that sometimes turns into a balls to the wall, kill or be killed, snarlfest. Good times!

Be sure to try Green Mesquite BBQ (also on Barton Springs) while you're in town.

Cheers,

Texbike
