Two cyclists died and one still in the hospital. They were riding on a popular loop around here and got ran over by the Deputy who apparently had dozed off at the wheels while patroling. I was just on that road last week.

Sad news.

Once again, a cyclist pays for another's mistake.
Is falling asleep at the wheel an accident?
I'm sure the sad pattern will be repeated. I'm not even sure that severe punishment for a deputy would get the message across that driving tired is driving impaired.
My heart goes out to these people's families.
I guess it all comes back to....when on the road...trust nobody.

Impossible.

This is the risk we carry. Bad things happen to the best of folk.

Such a shame.

Bike lanes are typically lines painted on the ground.
The only thing that would have helped these unfortunate people would have been a five-foot concrete wall or heavy steel barricade.

. . . you'd like to tell us about yourself, Cees? Your axe is already ground down to the nub. Hard for me to believe you'd throw something like this in a thread on this subject. Very unfortunate . . .

Bike lanes would be nice, but have nothing to do with this tragedy.

A 27 yr old cop falls asleep on a winding road at 10:30 AM? Sounds pretty weird.
