...that can help me figure out what in the heck I just traded for? I had some wood working equipment that I didn't need and this kid did, he had this Yeti that he didn't need....hum, neither do I now that I think about it!!! Anyway, the trade was made with me KNOWING it had to be at least worth what I was putting into it and his "Yeti story" sounded interesting so now it's mine to sell, ride, keep for a non-mtb buddy to ride if they happen to visit and want to do a ride, whatever! Mtb's are NOT an area of expertise for me at all, just want to make sure I don't screw myself or someone else if I decide to put it up for resale. All I know about it is it's fairly old, perhaps 10 years or more...and the guy that had it seemed to make a big deal out of the fact that it was a "Durango Yeti,"....whatever the heck that means! It's a model AS.3, about a medium-looking size frame, full suspension. Anyone out there a Yeti fan or expert!!??

I do know that when I was mountain biking my brains out in Colorado in the early 1990s, a Yeti or Moots was THE bike to have. Followed closely by Klein.

I never owned one of these steeds, but I admired them from afar.

post pictures and I'll see what I can tell you. or check over at mtbr.com

The reason durango yeti's are "special" is that they are older than the sale to scwhinn and departure of PArker. Yours is probably near the end of the "original" yeti era.

As it is is dually (AS) it is less desirable than a FRO or ARC of that era.

Yeti FRO - haven't heard that one in decades. Had one in red, 16" as well as an Ultimate in 17.5". These were the last mountain frames I owned until I went 700c in the early 90's.

Great riding bikes, extremely slack angles, predictable steering, heavy straight gauge tubing.

Certainly no expert, but I love mine. They're still quite popular in CO. Don't know about the "sold to Schwinn" idea? They were originally from So. Cal (Agoura HIlls) then moved to Durango, now in Golden. Perhaps there were some "dark" years in between that they don't talk about? They have a well deserved cult following. I'd for sure buy another.http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee291/chuckred/YetiinSnow.jpg

Yeti history (http://www.yeticycles.com/Company/CompanyProfile.cfm)

I guess a victem of their success, they now outsource much of their framemaking to China I think - but I think their top end frames are still built in Golden.

No doubt the newer models are lighter and more sophisticated, but I'd say you have quite a conversation piece and it should be a fun ride!

Had my Yeti FRO since 1991 and have zero desire to replace it. Best MTB I've ridden to date. No doubt there are better ones...somewhere.

Durango Yeti= Campy
Golden Yeti= Shimano

Before the company was sold and bought and moved to Golden...the bikes were born out of the love and attention of John Parker...this should help (http://www.yetifan.com/index.html)

Actually a buddy of mine claims he saw Bigfoot while hiking
in the Canadian Rockies. His wife saw it too. Thing was BIG.
He claims his encounter was from about 30-50 yards.

The guy is not the type to BS. Kinda makes one stop and wonder. ;)

Needless to say, he does not tell this story to many.
