Prolink.Made the switch from White lightning to ProLink over 5 years and 45000 miles ago and it is the best.

my friend who ran Cambria Bike Store laughed and said that it doesn't matter what you use as long as you use it. Sage advice indeed.

Having said that, Prolink is the best that I've used under all conditions. It is especially good under adverse conditions like mtn. biking or cross.

Cheers,

Kane

I haven't found anything better than ATB (search here for Keith Lewis) for road here in NE. I've been using Pedro's Syn Lube for cx and over this winter on the road and it works well.

Is it winter? ;)
Do a few searches. This is as close to religion as it gets.
The best answer seems to be regionally influenced...that's my take.

I like SPL-100 lube by ProLong. It's kinda tough to find in stores, but can be had direct from ProLong.

High priced lube won't be of much value if it's mixed with dirt, mud and grit - just makes an expensive grinding paste. That's why I've used nothing cheap home brew lube for about 8 years. 2-4 parts mineral spirits or naptha with just about any oil will do the trick.

My latest mix to try is 4/1 with 75/90 synthetic gear lube. Kind of smelly stuff until the solvent evaporates.

Of the ones on the list, I've tried Phil's, Prolink, T9, White Lightening plus home brew and ATB. White Lightening sucked especially when the temp dropped. Phil's is a bit think for me. Prolink, T9 and home brew (mineral spirits and Mobile1) were all fine but... I love the ATB mostly b/c I love how it comes out of the bottle; the spout on the bottle seems to be the best of the lot... plus it keeps the chain from squeaking and doesn't get washed off in the rain.

how come Dave's getting no love here? I use less oil than he does, but it's all I've used for years. My chains seem to las much longer than others. It's by far the best foul weather lube I've found. I use a large contact solution bottle with a a tube from a Triflow bottle as the applicator. A big batch costs less than a dollar.

when I was 17, it was a very good year:
I put left over motor oil on my chain and rode all day
and then had a beer.

when I was 53, it was a very good year. I got rid of
the oil and squeezed white lightning on my gear.
and then had a beer (non alchoholic)

But now I'm 57, and I'm sick of that gunk. I tried dumond
couldn't take the stink, so I use pro link.

I find the hilarious. We've had exhausing, laugh out loud threads on this and I'll never get tired of hear about "it"...or lights for that matter :)
Other than the epiphany that chain lube is very regional a clear winner is WIPE YOUR FREAKIN' CHAIN DOWN on a regular basis.

Has anyone here tried the residue from Prince Edward's sardines on their chains...besides Pucci. ???

Prolink. Boeshield's a distant second. I'm done looking at others. Prolink's the one.

I'll take Boeshield T9 over Prolink anyday. And if you get it in aerosol form you can easily use it on cables, derailer pivots, etc.

Amen ..... another vote for ATB. ATB really silences the drive train.

I've never been let down by extra-virgin olive oil and a little bit of tri-flow mixed together.

+1 Dumonde is great stuff.

+2. Clean with soap and water and let the protective coating build up. Getting much longer chain life now.

Prolink for chains (including a long soak when new), as well as for cleaning chainrings, derailleurs, and cassette. I wipe my chain very throughly after adding a drop to each roller (I wait as long as possible before wiping --usually overnight). Even though my chains look and almost feel oil-free, they last a very long time, probably because they collect so little dirt.

I highly recommend the 16oz jug (since my efforts to order a 50 gal drum have so far been unsuccessful).

Now, would that be chain oil, or 50:1 fuel mix (and if it's the former, I definately recommend Husqvarna brand)?

this actually makes a bit of sense.......considering the environment that a chainsaw usually operates in.

i really like Pedro's SynLube. it's got enough "body" to stay put but really doesn't seem to attract a bunch of dirt/grit. i have also had very good success with the fully synthetic motor oils.

LOL

Yeah. The chamois would prolly evaporate and leave ya with saddle sores in all the wrong places.

ATB.
Stays clean, lasts waaay longer than Prolink.
Doesn't get nasty like Triflow or Pedros.
It's great chain lube.
