View Full Version : Selle SMP Plus saddle questions...

Hi all,

In my quest for the "perfect" modern plastic saddle to come close to my beloved Brooks, I have run across a company (and a saddle) that looks very promising.

Its called a Selle SMP Plus and it seems to come close (well, kinda) to the same shape and size as the Brooks (if you can believe that). I have the 2 here and they are somewhat similar in shape. Closest I have seen yet to a B-17. Its very wide, hard and flat...

My question is: Has anyone ever used one? Liked it? Is there a "special" way to set them up? Anything I need to know about them?

I hated the Brooks B-17 until someone (DBRK) explained the proper way to set it up....then it was golden!

Any comments, opinions, experiences and flames welcomed.

Jerk, chime in here...You always have something pithy to say!

As always, thank you all in advance,

Steve

PS: The picture does not even begin to show how wide the saddle is or how flat across the back it is....

I have that selle on my Serotta Attack and Legend Ti. I never get numb in the crotch, and the saddle is very comfortable. It supports the weight of your two "sit bones" while leaving the center of your crotch in a channel.

My three fave places to sit.

I like my Selle Italia Turbomatic II the best of all of them!!! But they are hard to find and not everyone likes them. But you might try to give one a try. Turbos are classics for a good reason.

Does the red button launch missiles?

No. It's the Autopilot disconnect button. And pushing it is always preceded by the pilot saying, "Red Leader to Blue Leader, Going to Guns!"

Yes. Either that or it's where the yoke goes if you pull back on it real hard, in which case the nuts get crushed.

BTW, nowadays I get to sit on the left seat! I am now god.

Is there anything else? I have enough stress in my life as it is. I need the Stressless furniture. And the chair I sit on in my office ain't bad either.

This pic was taken about 4.5 years ago in a, you guessed it, SAAB2000 in Lugano in Switzerland. After last flight in my first round at SWISS International Air Lines....

I am currently using the SMP Pro on one bike and the Composit on two others...will also be using the Composit on my new Ottrott. The best saddle I have found so far. It is a a "fussy" saddle as it takes some fiddling around to find the "sweet" spot for it. Once it is properly adjusted, it is a very comfortable saddle.

What about this new saddle from Topeak? Anyone tried it yet?

Looks like a banana hammock and makes me wonder what the nose would feel like.

You now have a choice - get yer nuts ripped of in the slot on the SMP or have them catapulted into orbit by the top band on that topeak

Hmmm, quite a choice!

I road about 20 miles today on the Selle SMP Plus and besides the fact that it is very fussy to set up (nose up-down...fore-aft, etc..) it seems like it may be a great alternative to my beloved Brooks...

And, my hmmm, nuts were not ripped off in the slot.

I know it's not popular here, but it's my gold standard, and I've tried a lot of options against it. My fav so far!
