Don’t want these myself, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of these anywhere else . . . Maybe the answer to someone else’s dreams? . . .

These modified by Sachs (the original SRAM people, of course) Campagnolo 8 speed levers were used extensively with Mavic derailleurs, the last generation 845 rear in particular. You might have seen them on the old L.A. Sheriff Team bikes, if I recall correctly. I had some and they worked well. The modification had to do with the amount of spring they pulled, hence their working with 8 speed Mavic. Sorta' darn ugly, imho.

Ever seen any of these? Are they worth a S***? I gather from the “Buy It Now” price they are probably not . . .

But they ARE red!

Gee Dave,
Are you considering a color change for the queen, or did Dennis's wheels catch your attention at the TDFL?

These them there red hubs are more than a little strange. Look at the 127mm rear spacing. This is usually done when you want to use the same wheel in two different rear-spaced bikes, like a 126mm (6/7 speeder) or a 130mm (contemporary road stnd). But then they are called mountain bike hubs, which were never 126mm at all, to my recollection (this width having come far too early for that stuff...think Super Record, more or less...). Anyway, they _are_ red and that is always very cool.

Oh, and one more thing about those SachsSramCampag levers: they not only worked with last-generation (non-erector-set looking but indexed) Mavic, they were meant to be used with SRAM freewheels (as the add properly notes). They would also work with Shimano 7 or 8 speed cassettes...'cause I've done it. Unless you are working on "vintage index", that being something of an oxymoron, imo, then run away...run away...or put them on your shelf where this guy has had them for so many years now.

certain to have another red Sachs someday, but not with the red Sachs [sic] levered Campag/SramSachs shifters...

I've got a set of the sachs/campy levers (silver thank goodness) which I run on my ancient Rodriguez tandem shifting a 7 speed DA freewheels on Phil hub. It works well; shifting is much less of a crunch and find fest than with the suntour fingertips which were on the bike before.

And if you really want them in red and wnat to convert them to 9sp...you could get a 9sp shift insert for ~$40 at your local shop. or try Andy at Yellow Jersey, I know he has the inserts & spring kits. www.yellowjersey.org I think.
