Word on the street is that Michelin switched production to a new facility and in so doing they're delivery schedule has been delayed considerably for the PRO 3.

My vote is for the Michelin tires. I like Conti's for durability, but I find the ride quality so, well, blah. Just my opinion.

I voted for the Pro 3s. Nothing like the unobtainable ideal, atmo!

...But I do really like Pro 2 Races. And the Service Courses even more. So I expect that I'll be happy with the Pro 3s. When they are finally available, that is.

PRo 3's are out on some bikes currently on the market but have been delayed for "tire only" sales.

At least that's what I was told by one of my LBS' and they had a Giant with 3's on it.

Keen to check out the Pro3's if they can guarantee I will have as few flats as I do on GP4000s. Anyone care to opine on the protection offered by Pro2 SC's vs GP4000?

I'm psyched to hear that they ride well!

But now I really need to know exactly what shade of light blue they are before I send my frame to JB.

don't worry. you can have it repainted every time you put new tires on.

Yes we are and the Pro3's are the nicest clincher out there no matter what the conditions are.

got a pair of 3s a few weeks ago. They are very nice. They are a true 23 unlike the pr2s whcih were more like 25. The volume is less too although not quite as much as the width. They roll and corner very well, better than the pr2s, atmo. On the first few rides i thought they were covered with glue by the amount of stuff that stuck to them and hear pinging the down tube, but dont have that issue any more. If you get them make you first ride on a relatively clean street if you can or just get that new rubber dirty (you know what I mean).

I have been riding GP 4000's for the last couple of days. Today I switched to the Pro Race 2 Limited Editions.

They are LOUD. You would think that with no tread they would be the most quiet. Still a great tire though.

Anyone else notice this?

I just ordered some Conti GP4000 S's for my Lynskey. Can hardly wait to try them. I don't expected a huge revelation over my Standard 4000's but I do like the graphics.

/\/\ Nicest part about the GP 4000s is the puncture-resistant Vectran strip. Knock on wood that protective layer has prevented enduring cold & rainy roadside repairs for years. New compound and pleasant subdued graphics is gravy.

My luck with Michelin for both automobiles and motorcycles has been great. Used to run them on my bicycles years ago, so I wouldn't mind giving them a try again.

4000s for the last 400 miles..like them so far. Been riding Victoria Open CX and I also like them. (Have not tried the Race 3).

So, these Continental 4000 posts/threads are leaving me a bit confused:

4000
4000s
4000S
4000's
4000s's
4000S's

Anyone else have trouble 'cipherin who's riding what compound? :bike:

Bicycling Magazine August 2008 reviews rank Pro3, 4000S, and Vittoria Open Corsa EVO-CX in that order.

Pro Race 3 - Best for racing. Rubber compound from MotoGP tires make it the grippiest fast tire on the market. 27% more grip when cornering than Pro2 and can take a 25-meter radius turn 3 mph faster than Pro2. One tester says the grip lets you lean the bike so far over you could win a limbo contest. Wet grip would still cause them to switch tires if it is raining but durability is improved.

4000S - Impressive combination of resistance to flats, overall durability, and reliable performance on slimy roads. Black Chili compound now makes the tire take a huge leap forward in ride feel. Tire is more supple.

Vittoria - Hasn't changed since 2006 but still liked by testers.

I've put on a couple thousand on my Conti 4000S so far and I love them. Just did a Century Ride yesterday and saw lots of flats...but not me. I've yet to get one.
