Man, I just saw SPOKES new Kirk - what a beautiful bike. Until Bill post some pictures, look at David's Web Page for a look. THe picture does not do it justice. It is also VERY light and very beautiful (oh I said that already) :D

pete your right, that foto doesn't do the bike any justice.
I am glad I got to see it in person

I saw SPOKES' new bike in Portland. It is truly stunning. I think Dave received deposits for two or three JK Specials.

I believe that the bike as pictured on Dave's site is exactly the way Dave built the bike for SPOKES. I assume that SPOKES received the bike exactly as pictured.

I believe that the wheels are the new DV46 Reynolds wheels.

Dave or Bill can best answer the questions.

Only things that bike in the pic needs are pedals and a person on it.

It shore is real purdy.

How about this as a rule:

No lettering on decal anywhere on a bike should be bigger than the font on the DT? (or ST)

the bike was delivered to me just as in the photo. the only change that i've made is a saddle switch. i replaced the airone with a Stroika.
the wheels are the Reynolds DV46C (carbon clinchers).
the first ride was last saturday with about 350 other cyclists in an annual event we have in the raleigh area. nice weather and a good group to ride with. the bike feels very good but i still need to spend a bit more time on it to really get a good feel for the way it all works compared to some of my other bikes.
the total wieght for the bike is 17 1/4lbs with Ti speedplay pedals and bottle cages. the saddle change and trimming of the seatpost might knock the weight down to just a bit over 17lbs. not too bad for a lugged steel bike!
i'll post a more detailed ride report once i get a bit more saddle time on it.
i can assure you that it will be a very positive report.
nice job Dave

not to spoil the party but a friend of mine has a bike that nobillette built him almost 20 yrs ago and with new durace and standard lace ups it is around 17lbs. Good ol steel forever.

That's a very nice looking bike there. I also rode the Frostbite but, unfortunately did not spot that particular bike. Of course given the number of riders and generally large group sizes, I was focused more on jockying for position and maintaing a safe line that looking at bikes. I did spot a couple nice looking Pegorettis though. It was really a really good event and, the sag stops looked more like a Queen Elizabeth buffet than a quick rest/refuelling stop. The whole sh'bang was really well organized and attended.

ditt-mo

I sure hope that's nothing like "git-mo".

I hear the customer service there is lacking.

But I hear that they have stainless steel toilets.

I have such a good line for that but it flirts with politics..........come by the house at the end of the day and we'll have a beer over it.

i forgot to mention one other change i made. i replaced the reynolds stem with a Ritchey carbon. it goes better with the carbon bars.
i also pulled out my digital scale last nite to double check the weight. according to the digital scale it weighs 16.87lbs (this compared to the 17 1/4 lbs shown on the old farmer's market scale at my LBS).

I was ready to pull the trigger on a JKSpecial based on this bike and Karin's unpainted version at the show. I still probably will, but what can I say, not this year apparently. If I were to buy another bike of any kind, this would be it. Wow.

Killer.

if ever there was a case to grab a cold beer and start peeling wheel decals, this is it

Glad to be on Dave's wait list --it is zooming upwards (8 to 14 months in the ~2 months it took me to commit).

Is that the only paint scheme available for the JK Special? Just curious. I love/hate options!

you can have it finished any way you want......for a price ;)
i let Dave and Joe Bell pick the paint scheme since this was going to be the first production version of this frame displayed at the NAHBS.
this is my second Kirk and both are fantastic examples of top shelf craftsmanship both build quality, fit, ride characteristics and finish.
