My bike club (beer drinking club with a biking problem) is doing a week long trip to parts of VA this fall. I've been assigned the task of helping design a route from Culpepper to Front Royal. Anything from 35-70 miles, climbing is OK but no cliffs (we have Bopple here, thank you). I'd like to include part of the parkway if possible (how's the traffic there on a weekday in Oct?).

Does anyone who knows the area well have any suggestions? Current possibilities are http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/va/culpepper/486280771 and http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/va/culpepper/676393750

Thanks.

Bigger roads in this part of the state can be a bit frighten to do a group ride on. Skyline drive will be fine midweek. It is a bit cooler up there so keep that in mind. I'd call one of the local bike shops - The Bike Stop 540.825.2105. I bet they can come up with a route for you.

Tiger, the parkway is quite climby ;) If you ride from Luray to the parkway than to Front Royal that's a big day and I'll guess about 7k of climbing. It's worth it however as the riding and views are great. If you have trouble finding routes let me know, I know people :)
