Any smoothie drinkers here? Are you able to sneak in some veggies without ruining the taste of a good fruit smoothie?

Yes. No.

Here's mine...

whole banana
handfull of strawberries
handful of ice
cup of non fat vanilla yogurt
one kiwi (de-furred)
a bit of honey (not the candy)
a touch of confectioners sugar
four slices of peaches from a can and a bit of the syrup for the hell of it

Very high in sugar, but tasty.

When my wife had twins four years ago a friend recommended the following recipe. She has had at least one a day ever since and I occasionally indulge and find they are great (albeit cold).

1 Stoneyfield lowfat yogurt
Soy milk (vanilla) fill the empty stoneyfield cup
one banana (sometimes frozen)
1 scoop of Gensoy Soy Powder (chocolate)
Squirt of Hershey syrup
Bunch of ice or better yet frozen strawberries
big splash of wheat germ

blend the piss out of it and drink.

When I am real busy I have one for breaksfast (around 8:00 am) and don't get hungry around 3:00 pm.

Half a can of frozen concentrated OJ
1 cup water
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar (or much less if you prefer)
add a bunch of ice cubes and mix in the blender

Wait, that's an Orange Julius. :crap:

The only other ones I know include alcohol.

Sorry,
William

Place these ingredients in a large blender:
12-ounces of apple juice
5-6 frozen strawberries
half banana
small fruit-flavored yogurt
Let those first ingredients blend until very well-mixed. You'll then want to add these next ingredients, keeping the mixing time as short as possible so consistency isn't ruined:
three tablespoons crunchy peanut butter
scoop of high-quality protein powder
small handful of raw oatmeal
sprinkle of flax seeds
half-dozen ice cubes

Enjoy with a friend on the front porch basking after a good ride...this smoothie/shake is the absolute best and helps replenish the body!

1/2 cup light yogurt - vanilla mostly
8 ounces of whatever juice you like (the v8 fruit blends are good, cranberry-mix, OJ, etc.)
Frozen fruit - about 1/2cup of whatever you prefer
1/2 banana
1 tbs milled flax seed
Sometimes honey
extra juice to thin - Ice cubes to thicken if needed

I like to mix it up with berry one day, tropical the next just for variety. And on special days - Strawberry Rhubarb or Blackberry Mango!

Hmmm, minus the crunchy peanut butter I like the sound of this. I'll give it a try.

Do any of you have Breville blender? My old blender is toast and I'm looking for another but dont' want to spend the coin for Blendtec or Vita-Mix.

hoss, you'll love the texture the small handful of raw oats provides in the recipe above. Smooth peanut butter (or almond butter) can certainly be substituted if you prefer a creamier smoothie. If allergic or you don't like the flavor, it can naturally be deleted. It does seem to enhance the apple and banana flavors in my estimation. The protein powder I use has a nice strawberry flavor and it adds a bit of punch to the drink.

As far as blenders go, I traded-up to an all-steel Hamilton Beach model. The opaque metal container takes some time to grow accustomed as compared to a glass container. The nice part is that it has something like a 1/2-horsepower motor or something like that...so it practically doubles as a home-mulcher capable of pulverizing small saplings. :D

They were just making unsweetened smoothies on the Food Network to give to pet dogs that virtually any health-minded cyclist would drink in a heartbeat!

Here is what I have been making lately, all eye-balled bachelor style but this is what goes in it:

One whole banana torn into chunks
Some Vanilla Soy Milk
A big dollup of Vanilla organic (Stonyfield or Horizon) yogurt
a bunch of frozen strawberries or frozen mixed fruit/berries
about 1/2 a handful of blueberries
and a splash of orange juice, pulp free variety
sometimes a long squeeze from the honey bear
no ice cubes, that ruins it.

Blend it up and drink it while watching the VS Cycling from the day before on the DVR.

Steelhead, the yogurt and orange juice don't "react" with each other and it blends together fine? I've been somewhat hesitant to combine citrus fruits and dairy in my smoothies in the past, but if you say it works I would be willing to give it a try.

Blueberry-Mango

1 cup skim milk or (water and a scoop of Endurox R4)
2 scoops of whey protein
One 5 gram scoop of L-glutamine (optional - it's gritty)
handful of frozen mango chunks
handful of frozen blueberries

Blend milk and powders first, then add frozen fruit to a milkshake consistency.

I'm going to have to copy & paste these recipes into a Word document before printing, laminating, and storing with my blender! :)

This is my recipe too, except no honey. If I am out of soy milk I'll just add more OJ instead.
I don't use ice cubes because I only have a stick blender which isn't very powerful.
Yummy stuff!

Just a splash of the O.J. and it seems to work just fine. I just had one at lunch - yummy !

all the time and have never noticed a problem. (In fact, when you crave some empty calories try some OJ and vanilla ice cream mixed together!) I think as long as you use a blender, you'll be fine.

PS - the new V8 fusion juices work are pretty good and have some different flavors to mix things up. They light versions aren't too bad for calories.

I typically use apple juice as the "base" since it seems like it blends well with virtually any energy powder, protein powder, and various fruits as well as dairy products like milk and yogurt.
I'll have to give OJ a try in my next smoothie to mix things up a bit from a flavor perspective.
