anodized silver - check
short reach (80mm) - check
shallow drop (122mm) - check
nitto quality - check

is this a great alternative to the nitto noodle for people with limited flexibility?

can you use these with anything other than sti brifters?

There is a number for each model bar,
The shape of the bar you linked to is called the "186"

Nitto uses a few terms that are a little confusing.
I believe that "neat" describes the fact that it has cable housing
grooves for brake cables.

The "STI" designation means that it's got the anatomic shape
and the "bumps" that shorten the brake lever reach.

Some models have a bulge at the stem, some have a sleeve.
There isn't a great one stop shopping site to see all the nitto
bars, i wish Nitto had more listings on their site.

I ride the 186 STI on my R33. It's a great bar, but will only work well with Shimano 10 STI stuff. There is a flattened portion around the top bend that blends into the hood of the STI lever. My favorite handlebar at the moment.

I was previsouly riding the 184 STI which was 1cm long in reacher, 1 cm deeper in drop and didn't have the flattened section but otherwise identical. This is now on my fixed gear using Tektro R100 short reach brake levers.

I also have an 184 STI-80 bar on my cross bike which is identical to the 186 in dimensions without the flat section. It looks as though Nitto has discontinued this style bar though and re-used the name for their dark grey version of the 186.

The 153 bar is supposedly for women and starts in widths as narrow as 34cm. The ergo bend of the drop on this bar doesn't sweep back as quickly as the bars above so it tends to cock your wrists forward while in the drops. The picture in the SOMA photo is inaccurate. That photo is of the discontinued 114 bar, which was replaced by the 184, which is not to be confused with the 184 STI-80.

Then there is the 196 STI which is a blend of the 153 with the flat area sweepback of a Nitto Noodle bar. I think this bar was also "designed" for women as well.

All of these bars are unsleeved, front grooved and clear annodized. Most are heat treated.

They're also supposed to release a double grooved, Campy specific bar called the 190 EU or ERGO. I don't know if it's been released yet but I plan to scoop one up for my Kirk to possibly replace my 3TTT Morphe.

As for non ergo bars, there's my fave Mod 176, the 185 (similar to the 176 but with front cable groove, steeper ramp to the hoods and no engraved crest/emblem), the 177 Noodle bar (slight flare in the drops, sweepback on top and shallow drop) and the 115 (their classic 25.4 bar). There are probably more. I know that Rivendell commisioned them to make a lightweigt version of the Noodle called the Soba.

Yes, it's all very confusing. :D

Are you saying they wouldn't work well with Shimano 9 spd STI stuff?

Shimano 9 stuff will work but it's not ideal. I tried some Dura 9 levers on it, and in order to get the hoods where I wanted them, I had to compromise how far out the levers swung forward.

Course this all depends on how big your hands are :p

wow, you know your nitto!

rudawkning, can the 186 accommodate a shimano bl-r600 brake lever instead of sti? i'd be using it on my fixed gear.
