The reporter said he was carrying 80kg's of gear, could that be right? That's about 170lbs isn't it? Pretty impressive nonetheless.

Ahhh, been there done that.......
I think it was most likely 80lbs. Looking at the video his Ortlieb panniers, at best 40-50 pounds.

Read "miles from Nowhere" makes you want to do the trip. worked for me!
