Atmo, how do you say your last name? Is it pronounced Sacks, or Socks?

David Kirk

I saw it.

I can only give you the opinion of a framebuilder as opposed to a rider or consumer. It was wonderful. Pay your dollars and get a copy. I think that some folks who might find bikes of this sort to be "precious" might find some things a bit unsettling. Maybe not...........it's hard for me to put myself in those shoes. I liked those parts best.

At the risk of co-opting Richard's hard work and the film in a way.........it was cool to see that someone else feels the same way I do. I've never felt that way before so it was a big deal to me. There I said it.

Nice work.

For those looking to get a feel for what was presented...it was a film that, to me, focused on the development and refinement of a process. Frame building was born as a means of maintaining involvement in racing (the true passion) and subsequent years have taught that "perfection" is not what it is about.

The "job" is done in a small workshop, not a garage, and a majority of the time is not welding/brazing as some would think.

The best thing about the movie is the attitude, there is no bitterness about going into framebuilding (B. Gordon was handing out, "I should have been a plumber" pins and some of his seemingly jaded crew were all in agreement) and RS does a good job of reflecting both the mundane work and the freedom afforded by his chosen craft.

I'd buy it but would love to see a lot more of the process footage that was shot. Seeing the fork drop out finishing and listening to the factors that affect the final product was great.

Wierdest thing was the fact that the movie didn't take place in Portland.

The film was well crafted (major kudos to the filmaker!), and really set the mood or tone of e-Richie at work and why he does it. I, too, would have enjoyed seeing even more footage and hearing more of his thoughts. Perhaps a dvd w/ special features? There's also gotta be some footage in there that has a laptop in the shot...there were none to be seen in the film. I think his introductory comments and then seeing the film also helped me better understand the context of his posts: past, current & hopefully future.

thanks, mjb266-issimo.
if you recall my intro and some of the anecdotes, you may
appreciate this: the nicest compliment i have heard so far
is when one person wrote me and said that he enjoyed the
film and perhaps it will be a catalyst for someone to become
a luthier atmo.

for you others, there's over 60 hours of film and i'd wager that
des will construct a longer version in the future. the 30 minute

Desolation Row in the background? - drink
Spencer (seen or heard)? - drink

Um...Nah. I don't know about the long version, but you'd be pretty thirsty during the short version unless you drank for the duration of Spencer.

um...either my reading comprehension sucks, or I am seriously out of the loop, but I just read through four pages of this thread and I still don't know the title of this film, who directed it, or where it premiered (other than in Portland).

I do however know that it's not on youtube. And that MC Hammer is.
