Austin is a hip town for sure... I just don't understand the move and am having a hard time believing it's true.

If it is true, what does this mean?

What are the motives?

Is this a total sell out move?

Does Trek want to break into this market?

What's going on here??? I kinda thought this was sacred territory. I feel violated.

OOPPPSSS!

I read it as Lance bought "NAHBS" as in the rights to NAHBS. Guess he just bought the Naked bike.

My bad.

Here's what $15k buys you. I'm sure it made Sam's day. Anybody else notice that their Swallow wasn't a real "Swallow". It was a hacked up Brooks Pro. You'd think for $15k, they'd spring for the real deal

Tufo filetreads?

Vittoria cyclocross. Can't tell if it's tubular or clincher, though (they make both).

Interesting tire with a "classic" appearance.
The rims on which they're mounted appear to be wooden, so it's likely the tubular version of that tire. Thanks for the background information! :)

So the show was shut down before Lance came in for a tour? I don't see why that would need to happen.

Any other thoughts or observations on this?

$30 for clinchers and $45 for tubbies at www.probikekit.com. For $15K I heard that he got a set of spares.

He did buy NAHBS. And he bought a tricycle for the Olsen chica.

No, the shut-down was independent of Lance's visit. It was simply due to the venue being filled to capacity. Lance was also there on Friday at the very end of the day. Not that I was keeping track or anything...

and put the front wheel in straight.

If it can be put that way...(If it could, you'd think they'd do that for the show? Maybe? ...)

It is an "interesting" bike. Lots of interesting detail.

Some quotes from Sam the builder from a nice article on the NAHBS site
"This year I decided to put all my favorite ideas and components into one bike - and here it is."
"This is my homage to Portland. I love fixies and I identify with the culture."

The thing I have never understood about Sam, and I have asked, is how on earth does does he train for hs racing.

He lives on a smallish island off the west coast of Vancouver Island. I think there is about 9 miles of paved road on the whole island.

The fixie thing I could understand, the run around the island on a fix would be a blast, but training for his competitions???

Does he live on that little Island that is American, but can only be reached via canada?

I hear they live by their own rules out there.

I think you are talking about Pt Roberts, which is actually the end of a peninsula that starts in BC and ends up in the US.. Not sure about any lawlessness, or absence of rules.

NO, he lives on Quadra Island.

About halfway up the length of Vancouver Island, on the East Coast of Vancouver Island - so inland waters.

Quadra is about a 25 - 30 minutes boat trip off of Vancouver Island - so even if you want to go over to the big island for training -- you got some time in between to get there.
