It was a milestone birthday for the LBS owner last Saturday where I do my usual ride. Turns out, Lance Armstrong showed up for the Saturday ride as well to help the celebration.

Very cool. Nothing like having a champion among champions along for the weekly ride. I would have observed his riding technique every inch of the way.

Did the local go fast types tell Lance they'd wait for him at the top of the climbs ?

You tell im that the finish is two block before it really is. Then sprint off and hope that the trickery has bought you enough time. Meanwhile you have your buddies take a pic of you beating Lance in a race.

Was that Jim's birthday and the Richardson store RBM ride?

Yes it was Jim's 60th. No pics. Lance did the 36 mile ride so almost everyone abandoned their normal ride to do that one. From what I heard, wanting to ride with Lance and actually doing it is two different things. Needless to say, the amateurs got left in the dust rather quickly.

Jim, Jack, Tom (now at the Frisco store) & Woody (the RBM gang from old) are one of main reasons that I miss living in Plano (to say nothing of the great weather and wonderful food).

I would have observed his riding technique for the first 20-30 inches of the ride, and then he would have been too far ahead of me to observe much of anything.

But does it have an Astana paint job? I wonder why doesn't he just go to Taiwan or China and find some company to build "Armstrong" bikes. I also wonder how the Ullrich brand is selling.

Wasn't LA 'awarded' several thousand shares of Trek stock when he won #7 and announced his retirement? That would likely preclude his own brand.

LeMond's contract with Trek wil be expiring soon...I wonder if we'll see Armstrong Bikes then?

Does this preclude LA from showing up in Portland and getting on some wait lists himself?

Or has he already?
