I was considering buying a used PW mag-ti bb a few years ago. Since I'm about 200lb, I decided to call PW and ask about the ti spindle. Was told that it was tested for 225lb rider. Since the bb was only $80, including alloy cups, I bought it! I used it for a few years before switching over to a Sweet Crank set up.

My comments here are not from experience with ti BB, but if you are a big guy and put heavy stresses on your gear, stick with steel. The weight savings are negligible, and considering that the weight is on a small axis, they are not as pronounced as they would be if you were saving an equivalent amount of weight in the wheels. Add in the other issues of working with ti bits (anti-seize and high ease of stripping threads), as well as the fact that the steel spindle will be stiffer, steel atmo.

Noted on the ss spindle.

What about the cups? Alloy ones? Cracks? Steel?

I have a ti frame and they recommended the ss cups to me. Don't know what frame you have. Perhaps use the same cup material as the BB threads.

Steel frame. Advice taken. Sound like you don't want roman meal to de-crank next to you near the sand pit, atmo.

de-cranking anywhere is uncouth.

The alloy cups are teflon impregnated so there's no need to worry about
galling.
