View Full Version : What saddle (other than Brooks) would you ride without a chamois?

I know _fixed_ and others have talked about this. I've only done it once and I must say it was rather liberating. So....other than something Brooks, which I ride religiously BTW, would you ride like this? I have posted a couple of component questions relating to my fixed project that I am picking up this weekend and this is another. I have not built an urban assault vehicle but I would like to create a platform and mindset completly different for this bike. IOW, I don't want to use the same gear I use on my other rides because then it will just be the same experience with the obvious exception. That's why I am looking beyond the Brooks as that is what I ride on the others.

I've ridden quite a few miles on various Koobie saddles in street clothes.

Ideale, but they are much like the Brooks only, well, French (and long gone but not hard to find). The old Ideale city bike saddles are perfect. I love Rolls and Regals but I'd not want to ride long on either without shorts...for that the leather saddles much reign.

I hate to say it...

Specialized body geometry saddles...

I ride the Avatar in a 130 width in street clothes...it isn't too too expensive, and far far away from a Brooks...

Depends on how far we're talkin' here! Around the neighborhood, virtually any high-quality saddle would be fine.
Doing some serious mileage....I'm wearing lycra with chamois.

Another Regal endorsement. I commute daily without chamois on one.

But ya know... they're pretty comfy with chamois too.

My favorite plastic saddles have been Avocet O2 and WTB's of various designation... But I do extremely little riding w/o chamois--and it's not about padding for me, it's about other bits of comfort.

I commute (sans chamois) on a Fizik Pave. wouldn't do a century in street clothes on it, but it's comfortable.
