We have used them but I must be missing something. They work fine for a while but then seem to lose heat. We take them out of the gloves for a little bit and they get warm again. I realize they work with exposure to air but am wondering if this is what others experience.

Do your gloves have a wind barrier in them? If no fresh air can get to the warmers, they do stop heating. I rode today with the warmers in my gloves, and had them on the outside of my fingers (back of the hand). They got so much air through the gloves that they became too hot, and I had to keep moving my fingers to so they wouldn't get burned. However, the toe warmers were under my wind resistant shoe covers, and were not hot at all when I got home.
