. . . but it worked in large part because of the small cadre of similarly gifted people he gathered around him. She was a great actress and perfect foil for his comic style.

She was a VERY classy lady, and a damn good comedic actress. The finale for the Newhart show when he woke up next to her dreaming is the all time best finale in TV history IMO. You ought to hear the story of how they pulled that scene off. BTW, she was married to Tom Posten.

Was good in Catch-22, as was Newhart. One of the best movies of all time.

My wife at the PC yesterday, "Honey, your first love... well, one of you first loves... died." Me: "Dorothy Hamill? Eva Marie Saint?" I got it eventually.

Bummer. 70 is too young.

It's also depressing when you look at a pic like that of an old crush and realize there is absotively, posolutely NO way she looks ANYTHING like that anymore. :( :( :(
