Any predictions as to who will win the Mens Road Race this Saturday?

I don't have a clue.

Sounds like an interesting course with a down hill cobble section. Hope NBC will have decent coverage Saturday night but I'm not optimistic. No Lance will probably hurt coverage.

for some reason, the olympic road and TT races leave me absolutely cold. love every european race, but who wins the gold? yawn. strange. lack of real cycling history, maybe? versus track and field events i'll watch every second. anyone else not moved by the race? kinda like tennis in the games. yawn.

Climb, I agree. But I am not sure why either. For some reason (maybe location) I paid more attention in the week leading up to the world championships. Oh well, it will still be interesting, but I hope someone unexpected wins.

I'm rooting hard for Michael Barry, representing Canada, of course. His wife Dede is a good shot for the women's race.

Olympic cycling is, for me, track cycling, probably the only time I get to see it.

Climb, have you ever seen or read Lee Evans book "My Race Be Run" I would like to get my hands on a copy.

bill, no i haven't. but man, do i remember him running. there's something special about 400 meter/440 yard (old days!) runners. amazing combination of speed and strength. the last home stretch of a 400 is 100 meters of hell. to bring it home strong is quite an accomplishment. one place to look for book might be a used book website called (i think) alibris.com, or something like that. i've gotten great old books from them. like a first edition of "razor's edge", one of my favorite books. (sorry, that was a totally random comment.)

. . . but I have not seen a full race slate anywhere. Can someone point me to a list?

Squads look good. Appears Rebellin not riding it.

i will be really surprised if the u.s. team is really even a factor in the race.

Oracle, I would agree with you, but you never know. I definitley don't expect a "favorite" to win the race either, though.

I thought this was interesting from PezCyclingnews.com
. . . Here’s a look at the odds-on medal fave Team USA. . .

I am going with someone from 'down under'

The Aussies have a nice spread - Think Baden or one of his pals can do it? I do.

The Germans look like a tough lot too.

This doesnt look like a great race for the USA - I would like to see an underdog win to give a little country a chance at the limelight. :D

Oracle, good call on Bettini's gold. He is definitely hungrier for a win than most.

Oracle,

I hear you... And I have my fingers crossed too. Because last time, it surely wasn't the American Voters that won!

Take care... :)

...I also thought the coverage was going to be for crap.

I was right on one of my guesses.

So much Men's Synchronized Diving, so little time for cycling.

but we did get to see plenty of team handball. :crap: ok. let me do some math: how many bicycles were sold in america last year? and how many handballs were sold? guess nbc is going for that niche handball market so coveted by advertisers.

how serious can the i.o.c. be about doping when the olympic flame looks exactly like a huge joint?
