Thaught I'd share what a $200.00 bike looks like, and that you can still have a lot of fun with a clearance frame and all of the old components you might have taking up space in the shop.

It's a Zion mt bike frame with the eccentric BB, which I thought would be cool for this kind of bike. I always wanted a disc braked SS roady, so I built up the 700c wheels with leftover parts, a SS rear mt bike hub, an old LX front hub and some unmachined velocity aeroheads. The cranks are Campy Chorus 175mm, an old suntour grease guard BB that I'd been hording for who knows what, and old mt pedals (the kind we used before spd's).

It's really fun to ride, but I wouldn't be doing a century on it any time soon.

Brakes are a good thing with a single speed...and for some of us, its a good thing for fixed as well...

Just sayin'

Maybe I should change my name to "withbrakes" or something. Like I mentioned in the text, I always wanted a disk-braked Single speed.

Way cool. What sort of rear hub are you using? Have you weighed it? It look light, regardless.

It was from Nashbar clearance online. I got it for something under $30.00. The identical hub from another marketer sells for $240.00, and the hubs are brothers from the same factory in China. Regardless, it's got a BMX type casette freehub, not a threaded freewheel. The bike weighs 19#, with a very heavy sys 9 seatpost.
