Stupid chain question...

I went back to 9sp campy from 10sp and wanted to know do I dare use a 10sp chain with a 9sp cassette? Everything else is 10sp (chainring, RD).

A 10 speed chain will work great.

The only combination of mixing 9 and 10 that doesn't work perfectly
in my experience is if you have 9 speed rings with a 10 speed chain.

How do 9 speed rings work with a 8 speed chain? And if that's a no-go, how about an 8 speed cassette with a 9 speed chain?
