I need to replace my Campy brake pads and was wondering if I should remain with Campy or try something new.

Any suggestions?

Yes ...

Kool Stop Salmon Pads ......

Theses are an order of magnitude improvement over the stock
Campy rubbers. The Kool Stops modulate better, perform in wet weather
amd most important do not leave black crapola all over your rims.

and they are cheaper too. ! I consider these a no brainer. ;)

I use clincher aluminum rims. No carbon in my wheels.

Uhhhh...if ZNFNDL's mechanic can voice an opinion???? Don't tell him to buy replacement pads...he'll end up using vice grips on the campy holders and mess up everything (wink wink) +1 for the Kool Stops. I found their replacement brake shoe/holder combo for less $$ than replacment campy pads and they work very nicely.

My most remembered movie moment is when the mechanic is preparing a bike for PR in "A Sunday in Hell" and uses a little hammer to tap in new pads. Using a replacement pad only is in touch with the past. I even have a little plastic faced hammer that only gets used for that job (warm fuzzy feelings).

Actually, Cameron Diaz' opening scene in The Mask is more memorable in a different way, but the wife doesn't need to know.....

Kool Stops for me, I spit in the shoe and slide the pad in with a pair of channel locks.

Kool Stop Salmon for wet and dry. They wear faster than the black but stop better IMO.

Good tip Bill! I use channel locks and spit curses.... I'll try applying my spit in a better way.

Before I installed em .... I first cleaned the rims with a Mavic stone.
I thought is best to remove all the black crud.
Then rubbed the rims down with alcohol.

I belive there is a stone for horses hoofs that works fine also.
and a lot cheaper ....

But I must admit, the Mavic stone really cleans the rims nicely.

I use the hoof cleaners for my rims, about 1/4 of the cost of the mavic stone.
