Here's a link to photos of my 1985 (?) Serotta built Team Murray bike used by members of the 7-Eleven Team. Nice article in the March/April 2008 ROAD BIKE magazine that includes team riders perspective on the various frames used by the 7-Eleven squad, including the MURRAY and HUFFY frames made by Ben Serotta (also includes discussion by Ben). Now I only wish that I could get the replacement chainstay decals promised by Serotta staff on two (2) occasions! On two occasions I requested chainstay and headtube decal, and was assured that they would be sent to me, but they unfortunately never were sent. Thought that Serotta would be more interested in preserving this important American racing heritage, but it appears they may not be.

If anyone on the Serotta staff can help me out, please contact me ASAP.

Last summer Bob "Bobke" Roll spoke here locally and I managed to get a photo of him next to my bike. He specifically discussed the high-quality of the Serotta built 7-Eleven bikes, and many audience members acknowledged their current ownership and satisfaction with Serotta machines.

There's an article in Road Bike Action March/April issue 2008 of the 7-11 team bikes and interviews with several former members (Bobke, Davis Phinney Ron Keifel)

This past year a friend of mine got his hands on a Murray/Serotta that a buddy gave him.

My mountain biking friend thought that someone had put a few Serotta stickers on a department store bike. So... He took off the serviceable saddle and took the bike to the dump. He told me about the bike a week or two later. :crap:

Every time I see a post about one of these bikes I link it to him. He is quite sick of me doing it. Too bad.

The guy who gave the bike away is also a friend. He got it from a grubby guy who traded for a beater at the yard sale he was having (the Murray Serotta was a bit rough). My friend thought that it was a bogus bike so he gave it to my MTB buddy. My friend who passed the bike along should have known better as he owns my old Legend Ti.
Of course neither of them thought to call me, the road bike racer down the street who talks to them on a weekly basis.

I also have a Murray from 85...Last summer I searched all around the plant to see if any were in old boxes (that was 20 years and three moves ago that they were made.) I am saddened to say that there are none at the mother ship.

Wish I had a better answer.....for I really would like a new set. PETE

I picked up this '84 Murray by Serotta Team 7-11 bike last year. The good folks at Serotta took the time to review their records and said the frame number puts it in the vintage of the '84 Olympic team bikes. This one still has the Dia Compe brake levers and has a frame number plate tab. Wish I could find out who rode it back in the day.

I am looking for decals as well. The people at Serotta were most cooperative, but just do not have any more of them. I am talking with Greg Softley about doing a set for me (the ones on the other side of the bike are hashed). Any other ideas where I might find a set? I also need more close up photos of the stickers to send to the decal maker. Help!

TeamMurray7-11,

Nice photo collection.

I see your headtube badge is missing also. I don't know what happened to mine. I was just sick over it when I finally noticed it missing.

My Murray was ridden by Kenny Christoff to the National Criterium Championships in 1985. Serotta informed me as Kenny did it was a replacement frame that he only really rode to a first place victory at nationals. After the 1985 season 7-11 labled Huffy's (still Serotta's) that Kenny kept and rode for years.

It has been a few years but I still run into Kenny. When ever he sees his old Murray he always comments how nice I have kept it.

My Murray Serotta is now retired; I will never be able to put as many miles on my Moots as I have my Serotta atleast not in the rest of my life-time.

Best Regards,

Satellite

Thanks for your post --- head tube actually had a MURRAY decal, no badge.
Wish I had one, plus replacement Serotta decals that are still made by Serotta for the chainstays --- they promised them to me twice, and never delivered.

They were labeled "Murray" through 1986, "Huffy" from 1987.

I have one also, it was repainted by Serotta in the 1984 7-eleven team colors (red fade to white). Serotta couldn't furnish the Murray letting (by contractual agreement). I have a graphics background, was able to hand-cut and reproduce the Murray decals. Head badge came from a friends old Murray (cheapo) bike. It was the exact same head tube decal used on the team bikes.

Guys, I have an old frame given to me recently by a riding buddy. It has Serotta decals, and Murray stamped on the brake bridge and where the seatstays meet the seat tube. The bike is blus, and the rear triangle is chrome finished. Rear dropouts have Campagnolo stamped on them. The guy I got it from claims it had a history of being raced at some Euro classics in 1984, but I have no idea of how to go about verifying this. I have built the bike up with spare components and it's a fine ride, really a great bike. I'm enjoying using it. It's missing the head badge, wonder how I could get hold of one. Needs a re-paint as well but I hate to do it, not wanting to lose the originality. Any help is appreciated.
