I'm building up a HSG-Ti (2007) and confused on which is the correct material for the seat post, does anyone know if carbon or a metal material is recommended? Or is it just personal preference. thank you

Any material should work so think $ and what will look good and set back. Good luck with the build. I like the bontrager XXX light but that is just me. JohnnyG.

when it comes to seatpost, the right answer is always Thomson.

Thank you Johnnyg ...... BBD, you might be tough looking in yellow and black but your short stinger doesn't scare me.

Thomson posts are recognized as incredibly well made. Carbon posts will help soak up the road buzz, but be careful you don't get one that's so light that it breaks. Also steer away from fancy-dancy magnesium stuff or clamps. With those magnesium clamps (Deda Blackstick, etc.) you need a torque wrench to adjust it that costs as much as the post itself!

can you switch between carbon and aluminum seatposts? You aren't supposed to get grease on the carbon ones, right?

You can use an alloy post or a carbon one -- it's a non-issue. If you want to use a Ti post, you should be careful to use an adequate amount of anti-seize to prevent problems (galling), but that could work too. If you want to see a picture of a carbon post (with an alloy head) in an HSG Ti frame, I posted one recently, but it's really a question of finding the post that has the right setback and, frankly, "look" for your purposes.
