Hello everyone,

As you can see I have been a forum member for some time but haven't been too active with the posts. Unfortunately my first post isn't a real positive one.

Firstly, a little history. I live in Brisbane, Australia and my nearest Serotta dealer is 1500 miles away. I decided to buy my Legend frame from the States in 2005 via the internet from what I thought was a Serotta dealer as it was not as if I could deal "locally". Anyway, my 2005 Serotta Legend has developed a crack in the non-drive side chain stay. I was a little disappointed to say the least to find the crack but thought I should be able to organise a repair through Serotta.

I have tried contacting the original dealer, but no reply & the shop seems to no longer exist. Have tried the Australian distributor - understandably, not their problem. Have tried e-mailing Serotta direct (many timnes over the past 2 months) - no reply. I appreciate in hind site that I should have dealt with a reputable Serotta dealer, but I thought a "life-time warranty" was just that.

The aim of this post is not to complain but am hoping one of you might have some advice on how or if I should follow this up?

. . . PM Serotta Pete and I'm sure he could help you get in touch with the right people. I'm puzzled, though, that you've gotten no response to direct e-mails. What address did you try to reach them at?

would you not say this is out of any sort of warranty for which Serotta would/should be responsible? one might think you could find a craftsperson downunder who would be capable of diagnosing and fixing the problem...if in fact it is fixable.

I am sure Serotta Pete will help you out 100% and steer you in the proper direction to get your bike fixed UNDER WARRANTY...

That's what a lifetime warranty means. Just that.

Good luck to you and if you are still having problems getting in touch with Serotta, I'd be happy to make a phone call for you (but I'm sure Pete will help).

Some dealers stop carrying Serotta, and others start. I've seen some turnover in my own town. That's nothing to worry about since Serotta will stand behind the bike. And if a shop goes out of business, the warranty is still with the manufacturer. If this was a new Serotta you bought through the store, ordered from Serotta, then it has a lifetime warranty on this kind of damage (assuming it's not crash related or the like). You absolutely should e-mail Serotta. Contact James Morrison at james@serotta.com or Kelly Bedford at kelly@serotta.com. If there's a reason why Serotta wouldn't warranty it, they'll let you know right away. Serotta is always good about responding quickly to e-mails, so if you aren't hearing back you may have either a defective e-mail address or may have the responses blocked by your server.

Serotta is very good about fixing issues .....

If you purchased it from an actual Serotta dealer.
Did you fill out the warranty card? Did you recieve one?

Contact Serotta Pete .....

Drop em' an e-mail or PM. I suggest you have some shrimp cocktail, a few oil cans of Fosters and jam this (if there was a group ATMO could play cowbell or bongos for, it might be Men at Work) Australian music (and bonus, the first 10 minutes of 'Mad Max')...

Apparently James Morrison is no longer an option for contact at Serotta.

Try either PM'ing Serotta Pete or e-mail Kelly Bedford as has been suggested above.

If the bike came from a Serotta dealer and you are the original owner thenit should all work out fine in the end.

The suggestions of direct e-mails to Kelly and/or Pete make sense, but if you continue to have problems with e-mail, I'd recommend that you just pick up the phone. I realize that there's a time difference, but that's hardly an insurmountable problem. Here's the general contact info:

I've called Pete dozens of times between midnight and 6am and he's always cheerful and nice. I think he's having some phone problems lately, though . . . we keep getting cut off! :crap:

Dave;

As wonderful as a Serotta Pete appreciation thread would be, I think the incoming flood of posts would crash the server. :hello:

If anyone hasn't had the good fortune to meet Pete, oyu should make every effort to do so.

Pete is a true gentleman, an all around good guy, and a true Serottaphile.

We are all very fortunate to have him ahnging around.

End of thread hijack.....

Great, great, but what about 'Men at Work'?

PS. Do Aussies wear Bullfrog nose-coat SPF to bed or what?

You may be down under, but because you own a Serotta, you are not down and out!

I am CERTAIN the good folks at Serotta will set you right!

Good luck!

Just out of interest ... what would the warranty coverage be on a Serotta
purchased from the original owner through this forum? Does the warranty
accompany the bike? Assume the original owner purchased through an
authorized dealer, filled out the warranty card, etc.

Warranty would be whatever the original owner gives personally.  That is why you should keep all your bikes..just ask SPOKES :D
