I was fortunate enough to be able to visit the Vanilla shop over the holidays. We all know about the bikes, but Sacha is one of the nicest, relaxed and humble guys. It was a pleasure to meet him and see his shop which is a nice reflection of the qualities that we have come to expect in a Vanilla bicycle - the synergy of art and performance.

Anyway, I am no photographer, but here they are. Also, I got to hold and look at a certain bike that sold within 5 minutes on this forum recently. The bike is even more special in person.

Enjoy the pics and happy new year all.

Wes

Wow. As a lover of art....that place feels like a gallery to me.

As much a place for functional, usable art...which really moves you!

The trike is the bomb!

before the holidays and picked up a very cool Christmas present for me there. She met and spoke with Sacha while buying my first Vanilla, in the form of a riding cap.

Thanks for the photos and thanks Sacha for the cap.

Justin, I thought you would tell me to get my paws off your frame. By the way, don't mind my drool on your frame when you get it.

The shop looks more like a gallery than it did 1.5 years back when I paid a visit. He is a very genial host.

The man is an artist who makes cool bikes. He could do anything and be successful.

I love looking in on bike shops --and needless to say Sacha's is a special treat. But were the power tools off limits? His stunning hand finishing is exceedingly labor intensive, but tell me that he cuts tubes by hand?!

I loved the pic of the Vanilla logo tattoos on his wrists. that's dedication. there's a very well done documentary on Sacha and Vanilla here: http://www.brightcove.tv/title.jsp?title=979210160&channel=979396954

pic 16?
in the upper left corner, it looks like there are a few topeak pumps on the wall.
maybe even a slot for a larger one.
and below that, are those mini-pumps?
interesting.
i wonder how he puts those to use.
is it some sort of qc thing?
any thoughts?
man, that would be a fun "factory tour."

It is nice to see how humble Sacha has remained, even with all of the praise that Vanilla is receiving. It makes me wish that I was on the waiting list. I will own a Vanilla one day!

He actually had a whole other portion of the shop that I didn't really see. The place is pretty big and I suspect the powertools were tucked away there.

I use the pumps to be sure pump pegs are in the right place (especially for standoff behind the st), and to guage which pump to send to paint with a given bike.

The things that look like mini pumps are dummy axles that I use with my fixtures.

cheers bro

What about water bottle bosses? Ever bother to check those, or do you just slap 'em on anywhere? :p

I visited the workshop the summer before last. It was MUCH smaller. But it looks like you (sacha) haven't lost the nice feel. Some would have been tempted to overbuild the workshop. That looks awesome, but still DIY.

Thanks for sharing the photos! I'm impressed; it looks like Sacha's artistic sense carries over to his interior design. The place looks like a gallery; many places to stop, pause, and explore. If he did a lot of walk-in business, then clearly, just entering the shop would seal the deal.

Thanks for taking the photos.

It pains me to see those frames hanging from the ceiling... Every one of Sacha's bikes should be built up and on the road, atmo.

Thanks for sharing these - It's a beautiful shop.
