On my commute to work today, I go to take a sip of H2O and the water went from the tap to ice in 12 miles, go figure.

Vodka doesn't freeze.

Mix something in with it. Electrolytes, gatorade, cytomax, etc.. just about anything will help it not freeze.

Use clear bottles. Last year, the one ride we had in sub-freezing temps everyone with opaque bottles had ice while those of us with clear had water. If you're riding in the dark without the benefits of solar heat, ignore the above . . . .

That's how you KNOW you're having fun.
When I went to bed last night it was zero out. I laid out my max warmth gear for the commute today.
Overnight it warmed to +11F. Too warm! Sweating by the time I got to work.

It was 16F in the dark this morning. My moustache had stalagtites. ;)

I was reminded by my Christmas break in MI, we don't have it so bad here in DC. Yeah, it's pretty cold, but you can't beat the beautiful sunny day. I saw one hour of sun in 2 weeks up in the Midwest...

I've had Gatorade in my water bottle turn into a Slurpee before. I took it as nature's way of telling me to go home.

This is what you get for going to work too early.

There's a Friday early ride I do sometimes -- 6:30 from the Java Shack in Arlington -- and I didn't even think about it this morning (saw 14 degrees and got back in bed). But by 8 o'clock it was 23 and climbing, and still -- not balmy exactly, but fine. It's supposed to get up into the 50s tomorrow, btw.

I had the same thing happen on my commute this morning. The temperature here was 17 degrees. I had a rare commute where I didn't hit a red light until I was almost to work. I reached for my water bottle to get a drink, and the nozzle was frozen. The bottle felt like it was almost solid. Settled for some nice hot coffee instead when I got to work.

Hey, you got to ride :)

No cold toes here, as my battery heated footbeds keep my piggys nice and toasty.

Turning the bottle upside down helps the top from freezing closed.....but if the whole bottle is freezing.....I got nothin.

That means it's cold out. Fill a camel-back up with beer.
