I have recently ordered a Legand Ti ST and was planning on getting an FSA Compact Carbon crank (50-34), and running one of two casettes depending on whether I was riding around home (11-23) or in the mountains (12-27). I'd like to avoid a triple. The alternative is to stick with the DA10 crank, but only if I can get a lower gear than a 39-27. Anyone have any information about whether the DA10 reat shifter and derailleur will work with a 9 speed cassette with a 29 or 32 cog, such as is available from the Shimano mountain bike group sets. My guess is, a 32 on the back would be too big for the DA 10 rear derailleur, but I am unsure about the 9/10 speed compatibility.

Alternately, would the DA 10 shifter work with a 9 speed rear derailleur with a longer cage than the DA10?

the rear der. would work with 9 speed as is discussed on another thread. The shifter wouldn't be able to work. The shifter always has to match the cassette (9 sp shifters, 9sp cassette). Hope that helps.

I doubt that the rear der. would be able run a 32, thats a lot of chain. you could do an xt or lx der that would be able handle it fine.

Is it possible to use the new Dura Ace 10 speed crank with a 9 speed drivetrain?

A 10speed crank works fine with a 9speed drivetrain.
