40 mile an hour winds. went out with the group for a couple of hours. had murderous feelings towards most of them for most of the time.
still want to slap something/someone.

if cary ford weren't there it would have been too depressing.
i'm going to ride backwards tomorrow to undo the memory.

Here in Portland, we enjoyed our First Ride of the Year ride. 34 degrees out, 37 mph winds, and the sun was out. Our club joined over 100 other cyclists to get out and enjoy the rare sunshine. My wife and I rode our fixed gears, and it was bitterly cold. Going for coffee afterwards was the highlight of the ride, besides seeing many old friends we'd not seen since summer. Wish I'd remembered my camera. The actual route was mostly downtown, on the waterfront, and noodling through downtown up to Mt. Tabor, and Laurelhurst Park. It was a pieceful and good time for all, including the cars we shared the roads with.

Beautiful loop from Woodside into the Santa Cruz Mountains
Just under 50 miles and about 6000 feet of climbing

Great way to start the New Year, especially since the rest of the week looks like rain ...

I dont know where you rode today, but where I was (with a group of Team in Training alumni) we had beautiful weather...72*, a bit over cast and a small amount of wind.

Rode from home, down Ballona, south to the end (Torrance Beach) and back.

45 miler..Great way to start the New Year off!

More north than Swoop it was impossible to even pedal the bike in a northeat direction. Winds of 40-60 was sick. I cleaned bikes all afternoon. Looks like rain all this weekend. Friday night will be spent training at the ADT center.

Drank a half dozen pints of Murphy's and a half bottle of champagne the night before and didn't get home til 3:00am.

Woke up at 7:00 and rode over to my friends place for New Year's Day pancakes. Was the first one there :p

2 hours, 4 pancakes and a 5 shot Americano later, 7 of us were on the road from Oakland to Point Richmond and back (roughly 40 miles). Sunny and 55 degrees. It was a perfect day to be out my Bob Jackson rando bike :)

I rode the trainer today. The Pegoretti is in the computrainer right now so the ride was magical with precise handling. You just can't beat the feel of steel. The 36 spoke wheels were a little heavy on the climbs.

3.5 hours on the TiMax with short sleeve jersey but it was getting a little cool by the time I got back home. Getting home from the singletrack I ride=8 miles with a stiff wind right on my nose pushing Schwalbe Little Albert's. I felt the drag from every knob on those tires. But DAMN I HAD FUN!!!!!!!

We had a cold front moving in as I rode. My favorite rides are always in changing weather.

rode maybe 75 minutes. was in the teens, with a fair amount of ice and frozen snow still on many roads. a little sketchy in places. snow that was forecast to begin at 3 or 4, started at 11. but hey, any ride outside beats any ride inside.

I rode off the island of Sanibel and met my group on there way to Sanibel. After four flats among the group, the rain, wind, and lightening came upon us. Just one of those days. I ended up with only 16 miles. Safe miles to all in the new year! JohnnyG

190 miles in the car... 6 hours through torrential snow & ice on the way back home from Vermont.

Had to dodge all the SUVs and AWD cars crashing everywhere. One woman almost got her Jeep all the way into opposing traffic even though the Median was 100 yards or more. Thank god for that crash barrier. Had to get off the highway in VT and take a back road 20 miles back into NH as there was a 20 car pileup on I-89 that created about a ~15 mile backup. Thank god the State police were stationed at the last exit before the backup as there was maybe 1 exit in that whole stretch.

Got to snowboard Dec 31st and rode the trainer today.

Alexis and Co. put on a great shop ride for NYD in Austin! I am guessing about 50 to 65 riders, great coffee and bagels pre-ride, two nice routes and starting temp was around 40 with blue skies and warming to around 50 later on. What a great way to start the new year. It felt like sneaking around a deserted world and getting something that all those still in bed missed out on. :)

No ride yesterday, ran with a friend - made him cough up a little at the end.

Put New Year's Day dinner, pork roast and sauerkraut, in the slow cooker and got out around 9:00. Starting temp was mid 40's, blue skies, warming to low 50's early afternoon, and then the temperature started dropping ... fast. It was in the 20's last night and will be for a few nights, with highs in the low 40's. It was unbelievably windy yesterday, 25-30 mph w/ gusts; today it's the same. Got in an 80 miler, but what a bear riding into the headwind and crosswind solo. When I caught a tailwind though ... how totally sweeeeeet!!!! :D Made me feel like I was in shape, which I'm not. :crap:

Glad you made it home OK. My family was up in Acadia last week, and we were planning to come home on the 31st. Luckily I caught a weather forecast Sunday morning and we headed home late on the 30th. I think coastal Maine has more than a foot of new snow since we left. The snowshoeing was great while we lasted, though!

3 hours on the Blue Ridge Parkway with 2 good buddies, about 30' and crystal clear. We rode the stretch near Sparta and Bellows Gap, about 2K ft climbing and some chilly, fast descents. Great way to break in the new year.

101 miles, a bit over 10,000' climbing. Beautiful blue sky, temps in the low 40's to about 50*, snow in patches. Hit 59 mph on one descent! Got a late start so I finished in the dark. Too bad the rain is coming back tomorrow.

it was just raining when I left for work,5 miles later it was pouring sideways, deep puddles on the shoulders, little traffic as NYC nursed its hangover. I didnt see any other bikers, a first for me,exchanged that knowing appreciation of the elements with a jogger (in shorts) as we negotiated our routes through a small, windswept lake.Rolled into work and the rain was over, ordered some new Showers Pass rainpants while my gear dried on the equipment rack. The return home was dry,30 miles into 2008,many thousands to come.Happy New Year to all,be safe.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about so much cold weather for many of you.

Did a nice easy 25 mile spin from my front door to Hanauma Bay and back. Beautiful weather down near the ocean, a little sprinkling of rain for the last 1.5 miles coming home. About 80 degrees, 20mph NW winds. Beer and grilled marinaded flank steak in the afternoon to watch the bows get waxed by the dogs in the Sugar Bowl.

we've had a standing ride in Sioux Falls for about 20 years now. when i left home it was a balmy 5 degrees. approximately 130 brave souls rode about 10 miles for some free chili and hot cocoa.
