I saw a link to the '88 Gavia footage on there recently, and after like 3.5 seconds of seeing Andy head-down, barreling up through the snow, with nothing but the ciclamina jersey on his back, the rest is a bunch of close-ups of wimpering euro-trash getting hot tea and putting all kids of outerwear on, during the middle of the race. Obviously, they had given up on doing any actual racing from that point on, but the euro cameraman would rather cover that than the epic riding happening at the front. I know the story goes that pictures were difficult to get in the bad weather or something, but jeez.

last August, on his Dolomites trip, the blessed one was entertained late one night by a bikeclub in Bormio. The attraction was a viewing of all the footage from RAL on the descent from the Gavia when the media could actually figure out what was happening.

i'm at a loss to explain what happened when the lights came back on.



Still, post event trauma, it was a special evening for a hell of guy.

Thank God's father for CBS covering cycling. Really, did any other channel show us cycling's highlights a week after the race ended? If not for CBS spandex sales would be 1/10th of what they currently are. atmo.
