My wife bought me remote control plane for Christmas. It's something I've always wanted as a kid but until now it's been unrealized. Anyway, I was looking around on YouTube and I came across a guy who's attached a video camera to his plane and gets some very cool video of his neighborhood from a few hundred feet. My goal has been to learn to fly my plane and take some video with mine as well.

Today I found something that is so much better that I just have to have it. I found a guy online who is able to feed the video signal from his plane to a pair of virtual reality goggles so he gets an actual birds eye view of what the camera on his plane is seeing. If that wasn't cool enough he's also built a gyro into the camera which reacts to his head movement so that when he turns his head left or right, up or down the camera on the plane does the same.

Check out the video below. Toward the end he actually spots a bird and trails it for quite some time.

here's the video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=SWcHdr9ISW0)

Here's a link to his YouTube page (http://youtube.com/profile?user=vrflyer)

That's COOL, Kevin!

But enough of this "suburban office park" cr@p . . . Let me know when you actually have one of this online. I know where Jessica Simpon has her sun deck!

You're on, Dave. The fun a guy could have with one of these.

I work with several guys who play Aces High. (http://www.hitechcreations.com/frindex.html) They use joy sticks, foot pedals and some infra red tracking gizmo for looking around while they're in combat. It's quite elaborate. I showed them this video today and to use a Dr Phil expression, they're all over this like a duck on a june bug. I'm looking forward to seeing if we can get a few of us to run with this once the snow melts. It should be a blast!

I don't fly but with this sort of setup it's almost as if I'll be doing just that. Nothing near what a real pilot experiences but I'd have to guess it would be a pretty close 2nd.
