Ok, so after you go ski/ride whatever this New Years morning you may want to check out the "Ice Bowl" being played in Buffalo this afternoon.

The Sabres will play the Pittsburgh Penguins outdoors at Bills Stadium. 70,000 fans, real old time ice hockey with actual cold temperatures and snow!

Fierte Ti, you have tickets?

Should be a real spectacle.

I have to admit that even not as a hockey fan that hockey should really be played outdoors.

Like almost all sports.

Good idea from the NHL.

So true, this will be one of maybe three hockey games I'll watch this year. The hockey season is too long, seems to go on for thirteen months and playoff hockey is nearly the only thing worth watching as the intensity of play increases atmo.

Now if the NBC yokels can go 15 seconds without mentioning the greatness of Sidney Crosby I might be happy. Go Sabres!

Ahh, they should go all the way with the retro thing and wear wool sweaters that lace up at the neck, no helmets and bare faced goalies.

Just like Eddy did (Eddy Shore).

Would it be cooler if it were the NY Rangers instead of the Penguins?

And they should have seating around the rink itself atmo, 'floor' seating etc.

to watching my younger brother's hockey games growing up in MN. Playing under the lights at 6pm, -10F and -standing- along the sides of the rink, the entire crowd jammed into the old warming house with it's oil stove between periods.

Oh, I didn't say he won't get any points...liked that flipping the puck up in the air 2x with the stick in the first period. Has he been playing hurling?

They did mention Sid at least 2x in the first minute of the broadcast.

No.

Nobody in Buffalo gives a rats *** about the Rangers.

There would only be more excitement if it were the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not a big hockey fan and would have missed this, but it was really fun to watch. Can't say it took me back to anything (grew up in Arizona - not a lot of outdoor hockey  ) but it looked like the way the game should be played.
