Aren't tattoos so 1999? I anti-tattoo. I think it's part of why I have such a hard time watching an NBA game nowadays.

US Marines should get tattoos and that's it, atmo.

Then again, I might get Angelina Jolie's tattoos (the coordinates of her children's birth) on my shoulder, someday. Or Star Wars-out my back. What I really want is a tattoo of bacon placed on both of my palms, my hands always full with BACON.

Look at how tired Brad looks. He got it backward with Angelina and Jennifer.. you leave the crazy one for the stable one.

In 1993, Angelina was in 'Cyborg 2'. I would've hit it then, back before she got all freaky deaky.

Very, very, few tattooed people are cool. Definetly less than the general population.

This is a silly one that needed a much better artist:

I'm surprised how many people were willing to become branded by some logo. Sacha at least has his own company's logo on his wrists.

For more, check out Joel Metz' chainwheel tattoo collection:

Well, according to his profile he is a self acclaimed "ignorant a$$hole" so grain of salt my friend. Grain of salt.

All the tattoed folks who roll into our shop (and we're talking some serious CAT 1-5 roadies, hardcore randonneurs, and the fixed crew) are all very humble, very talented riders. Oh, and are all very, VERY cool.

Lots of tats aren't bad. But you have to keep the subject matter in mind. I've seen some heavily tattooed people who have beautiful and inspiring artwork and they turn out to be deep, insightful, beautiful people. Then I have also seen some where the violent, crude, hateful subject matter makes me cringe. Don't even want to find out what kind of people they are--I'm too scared!

I've been impressed by the artwork displayed on the bodies of many tattoo lovers, but as one ages, the tats really seem to degrade. Maybe modern technique and inks prevent that. I'm most familiar with the tats displayed on aging veterans (I work at a VA hospital.)
Most of their tattoos fade, smear and basically look like sh*t.
I wonder what today's tattoo lovers will think of their artwork when they age?

I've had some of mine as long as 10 years and if you keep 'em out of a lot of direct sun (sun screen) and lube the skin in those areas they look great. I also think that if you have a high concentration of ink in small areas it begins to _run_ together over the years. I have a piece on my arm that is a replica of a design from a stained glass window on an old church and the guy that did it for me cautioned that it was a lot of ink in some of the areas and that it may not age well.....it didn't.

I think tats are like art in that good artists do good work that lasts and crappy artists do crappy work with substandard materials (probably the case for a lot of old vets) that don't age well. They may not have taken care of the skin in those areas either.

Listen to me ..sounds like a stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I've never understood the appeal of tattoos. Why put artwork so bad you would not put it on your wall on your skin? I agree with others that question how they will look with age. They just strike me as a "look at me" gesture that lacks foresight.

I suppose that people are searching for something that makes them stand out it a sea of conformity, but tattoos HAVE become mainstream so I guess severe body piercing is next. Hmmm, perhaps that's already here as well. How about being decent, not believing in supernatural beings and avoiding voting for war mongers. Maybe that could make us stand out.

Sorry to have drifted off. Reading the news on the first day of the year is a bad way to start off and I fear 2008 will be as bad as the last 6 or 7.
