Anyone has tips on this one? I am trying to replace the hoods on Campy Record Ergo Shifters I have and I am not sure one must remove a part of the plastic lever, before removing the hoods... They surely are a pain to take out!

Thanks,

Pull the hood off the thumbshifter and then the hood comes off the front of the lever. You probably will have to coax the hood over the bump as you pull it forward.

leave all parts of the shifter in tact and on the bar.
pull from the back towards the front.
when reinstalling just make sure the little nubs are in the correct places so there are no bulges.

Yup, I was afraid this thread was going to turn on that route! :D :D

Anyway, I was told some lubrication would work, no?

Use isopropyl alcohol as a lube. Makes the hood pretty slick, for a short time. NEVER use any other type of lube or the hood will slip around forever.

its ok to use a dishwashing detergent solution to pull them off.

you can try to put them on with some plain water. if you have difficultiies with plain water, use a little soap and rinse it off before use.

Guys,

The alcohol thing did the trick... the hoods come off nice and easy with it!

Thanks!

All you gotta do is ask. I'm easy.

Most easily done with 1.)Levers off the handlebar and cables disconnected, and 2.)The brake lever portion of the control removed.

And how do you do #2? Do you mean the carbon blade?

Totally unnecessary. They can be removed or installed in under a minute on the bike with the brake lever in place.
