c-record and newer uses a different pattern(135mm) than s record or n record(144mm).

NR/SR was 144 bolt pattern. Everything since is 135 bolt pattern. Compact is 110.

And if you have an older 1960's vintage crank, they used 151 bolt pattern for a while.

and you may need some new cotter pins to go with the new chainrings.....

The new ring should work with a 90's chorus crank, assuming the ring is new and not nos from 84 pr prior.

To add to the complexity of the question...

Fixed, is it a 50 tooth compact (CT) ring? I don't think Campy makes a 50 tooth in their 135 pattern.

If it is a 50 tooth Compact (CT) ring, there are a couple of possibilities. Is it bright silver or gold-ish? If it is the gold-ish color, it is a Record level CT ring and has the proprietary 110/113 bolt circle. This can be used on all of the new CT Ultra Torque cranks and the older Record Carbon CT and Chorus Carbon CT cranks (square taper). It can not be used on the older Centaur aluminum CT (square taper), as this had a true 110 bcd.

Now, if it is shiny silver, it may have come off a newer Centaur CT Ultra Torque or an older Centaur CT (square taper). The way to tell is by the chain drop off pin. If the drop off pin is between two chainring bolt holes, it is designed for a 5 arm crank and came off of an older square taper Centaur CT crank and has s true 110 bolt circle. This will not fit on an Ultra Torque crank. If the drop off pin is in line with one of the chainring bolt holes, it is designed for a 4 arm crank and came off of a Centaur CT Ultra Torque crank. This can be used on all of the newer CT Ultra Torque cranks and the older Record Carbon CT and Chorus Carbon CT cranks (square taper).

Ugh. I think I covered most of it. So is it gold or silver? :)

Edit: And none of the CT rings will fit on a 90's Chorus crank.

Fixed,

Did the one from me work? I had it on a 92 Chorus. It should work unless it you have a compact or pre-86.

I share your frustration with the availablity of new 135mm rings in other than 53 or 52. If it's a new 50, it's probably compact.

They have in the past. I don't know that they have since 10speed has been the standard though.

This would certainly be fuel for somebody who likes Shimano. Campy is great stuff but they really should get the priorities in order about changing things and obsolescence. Atmo.

Stronglight makes 135 chainrings in a variety of sizes, maybe Down East Bike Stuff sells them.

Fixed Bro, living down here in flat florida i found that with an 11-23 ten speed cluster i never used the 11 or 12 with a 52 tooth big ring so i switched to a 50, same thing with 42 inner ring, i never touched the 21 or 23, swapped that out for a 44 tooth and now i'm using the whole cassette. i guess it's a semi-compact.

Bill still has too many gears for FL gearing. All you really need (actually you don't fixed) is two gears. Headwind and tailwind.
