so after months of riding fixed gear I goin to start riding some geared so here is my question my choices are cadd 7 with 6600 or 753 merckx corsa with 7400
this the ride i'm goin to put through the ringer everyday . i have a thing about carbon forks after breaking a few other wise the c dale feels more like my merckx than my steel fixed miele
.. this isn't about steel vs alum. so much as a day to day beating i would tend to grab the merckx but it's 20 years old but in good shape imho . what would you cats do ?
cheers

Traitor :) What speed 7400? 6,7, 0r 8? The Merckx would be my choice regardless
753 merckx corsa with 7400 easy transition........

I had a cannondale once. I sold it when I saw the light.
Steel is real. Take the Merckx.

The 8 speed Dura Ace group is bullet proof.....I'd take it over 9 speed Ultegra anyday....

fixed: your merckx, or your fixed. No offense to cannondale, but that's not what you seem to be about anymore, and it doesn't seem to inspire you. Value each glorious sweaty pain-filled moment.

Seems to me that for daily use a Cannondale or any recent (ie. THIN tubed) aluminum bike is going to get dented sooner or later. Maybe that doesn't matter...
Merry Christmas,

does this mean you are going to have a new handle ... geared ... for the days when you ride the new beast?

the merckx sounds really sweet. My own tastes run to lugs, older downtube shifters etc
but if you're talking just having a fast bike to ride and not look at, the dale is perfect. I have had two dales and they didn't break.
and the 6600 shifters are a pretty big step up in comfort, at least for me

I'd ride the Merckx. We are on this earth too short of a time not to ride bikes with real soul.
If I was in college again I'd try to find a way to make a beer bong out of a c-dale atmo.

Both have their merits. I'd personally be leery of a used c-dale unless you know the history and the rider pretty well. The big bonus of the cannondale is that you will want to go fast on it. They really jump when you get on the pedals. If you are light, you probably wont like the ride. It WILL beat you up on less than perfect pavement. It will eventually crack someplace too. I have had cannondales and like them.
The eddy will live forever. A steel merckx will always have cred and is a classic ride. The enjoyment of a mecrkx bike is a little more subtle and you will enjoy it more over time.

Don't do it! More gears mean more grammar. It's already starting to happen and you're only thinking about it.

kepp them all and appreciate them all. If one does not float your boat you can let it go.
One thing your parables keep telling us pal is......enjoy the ride, it's more important than the bike atmo.
