I saw The Doors, back when I was 18, in December, 1967, Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, California. Jim got quite drunk before the end of the concert, but it was still unforgettable. He had his classic black leathers on, silver concho belt, the whole deal. At the beginning, I remember Jim asked, "Anybody got a cigarette?". Then, about 300 cigarettes flying toward him, onto the stage. He bent down and picked one up, then asked, "Got a light?". Then, about 200 matches lighting, all being held out to him as he bent down the front of the stage and got one. Then he planted his right foot on the mic stand, held the mic close, and sung, a capella, "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" in an Elmer Fudd voice, ( The crowd went nuts) followed by Back Door Man, et.al., the smell of weed filling the air. Stuff like that you never forget. Incidently, tomorrow's Jim's birthday. He'd be 64. Jeff N.
