View Full Version : To decal or not to decal....

... that is the question.

I am having a new wheel set built up using Reynolds DV46C rims. For some reason, the rims are coming without the decals applied but Reynolds is supplying them separately.

This gives me the chance to have "stealth" rims if I want but, unlike BBDave's thread, I am not offended by the big decals. I guess when you race cars long enough the logo thing isn't a big issue and is even some times interesting.

I can't remember what the carbon looks like on these rims so I would be curious as to thoughts from people who have them on whether the wheels would look good "naked" or not.

Thanks,

BK

nude
raw
naked
bare
in the buff

Leave the decals off. At least if they're balanced with them off.

I can't help you with deciding which will look better on your bike but I can show you pictures of wheels with and without the decals.

These are without decals http://www.flickr.com/photos/ligerowheels/963716124/in/set-72157600085984991/

This is with decals http://www.flickr.com/photos/ligerowheels/462837502/in/set-72157600085984991/

Bruce,

I just ripped off all of the decals on a new set of Mavic CCU's. That made the Vanilla look a thousand times better than with decals. Wheels should be bare.

Bruce,Wheels should be bare.

Gotta agree with Jack on this one. Also, think of the weight savings.

They look good naked, but there is something about the reynolds decals that I really like. Even though they're huge, they manage to look sort of tasteful, I think.

CT,

You don't miss a thing. I meant to write Vanilla instead of Kirk. I picked the Vanilla up today and had a hors catogory ride. I want to make sure though that it wasn't psycho-you-know-what kind of ride. I don't think so but man was I on cloud nine. Sorry for the Kirk mix up.

it think in order to be a true roller the rim just needs a small unicorn/my pretty pony sticker to indicate the valve hole.

Thanks guys.

The pictures kind of cinch the deal for me to go decal-less.

I guess if I miss the NASCAR look I can always put them on later.

Swoop, I knew I could count on you for help and it is amazing how great minds sort of think alike. Depending on where the yellow R logo is, I was thinking I would just put on one of our club's small oval shaped decals to help locate the valve hole.

Have the rims painted with a strobe pattern, like a turntable.
When you reach xx speed it spells out Forza Sandy.

Bruce,

Set 'em up naked, and see how you like them. If you're happy, stop. If you're unhappy, apply the decals.
