A very cool and awesome first time on the velodrome. We spent 2 hours riding around practicing paceline drills and doing 200 meter sprints and it was a hoot. I was able to hang perfectly fine with most of the guys, girls and juniors just fine. The Sachs was awesome and it was a bast to ride. It's so fast and the front end is as quick as a cat. It was a chick magnet too. Most riders out training were using regular road bars and stems and not riding nearly as low as I thought they would. It's a real rush to be doing 30 plus mph around the low part of the track with a good size paceline for the first time. Cool thing is that I didn't get anybody hurt which was a relief. I'm going back next tuesday evening.

Sounds like a great time Jack. I remember what that first trip to the banks is like. Your Sachs is a very smooth ride compared to so many bikes out there.

I have found that I'm better off just using my road position for the few times a year I go to the track for fun.

It's a compliment when others will even ride around a new guy on the track. I have seen a pace line just sit up when a new guy gets on the back.

You should get into an introduction to track racing program similar to air products in t-town and get some sweet scratches on that bike. It's not overly competitive and it'd be a good compliment to your longer events. Before long it'll have a patina like that 50 year old Bianchi that was in the gallery.

Congrats. The track by me was redone so now I feel the urge to get out there as well. I won't have anywhere near as nice a rig as that, but I'll be out there none the less.

What is the favored tyre and gear for that track? The first time I was ever in a pack race at the track there was an OMG moment where the group sat up and I was thinking about brakes  There might not be a more serene moment in cycling for me than when I'm in a warm up group at T-Town humming along doing one lap pulls...everything goes quiet.

Wow. Encino has 29 degree enbankments. Where I ride, Helyer park, the banks are only 23 degrees. Must be a blast ripping down from the high ground into the sprinter's line.

What gearing did you choose to ride with Jack?

I used to ride the track in Zürich. It was cool. I am envious.

They are pretty lax in Miami. Conversions are more than OK. I saw a front brake though and that made me a bit nervous.

Good morning and thanks for the kind words. The track is banked at 28-29 degrees. I rode a 49x16 and probably could of used a 15 torward the end but I think my legs would have exploded if I used a lower gear. Yeah a 200 meter sprint feels really cool when dropping down from the top. I never throught I could go that fast and man it's a real rush. I did see a red Serotta track bike along with a Bob Jackson a few Felts and Giants. Over half of the bikes were using full disc wheels. Overall a great time.

we did for a few years. Disney had the Atlanta Olympic track at the Wide World of Sports sitting in storage. I heard they sold it to a city in Canada a few years ago. Back when there was talk of Tampa/Orlando going for the summer Olympics Disney was against the idea, but were hedging their bets just in case.

Conversions are kosher at Helyer but NO brakes allowed and you must have drop bars. Other than that, anything (almost) goes.

You saw a BJ? Cool. Most of the ones we sell are hitting the streets. It's good to see English Iron being represented on the track :D

I was running a 50x15 last time out and it was feeling a little tall towards the end of the day. I think during some of the longer, multi laps runs, I could have benefitted from some spinning.

It's cool seeing some of these veteran guys come out with their bag of cogs and rings, swapping out equipment between heats. They really have their stuff dialed.

Cool, Jack. I haven't been out to Encino yet, but I hear it's a good atmosphere.

The guy with the red Serotta (pretty tall guy) is my buddy Tavis. He's a really nice guy and a pleasure to talk to (as well as draft behind).

Get some experience at Encino, then head on out to ADT in Carson. 28-29 degrees seems very simple compared to the 45 degrees at ADT. Very fast track.
