What affect, if any, does extreme mud and rain and wet water have on the glue job? I washed them and put them by my heater to dry.

Wet water?
Yeah, not the frozen kind. That kind is stiff, like it's on Viagra.

Well, wet water, mud, whatever, it isn't good for the bond. It does a couple things. First, the abrasive stuff (mud) causes the latex bond to break between the tire and base tape. Second, the bonds of both the base tape to the tire and the base tape to the rim are reduced when wet and they don't completely recover when dry. Partly this is because the abrasive stuff inevitably gets deposited in the tire (and rim cement), partly because the adhesives are both colloids and when their colloidal properties change even slightly (and they way they're formulated, water will do it) their internal strength (within the glue layer) and their electrostatic bonding (to the rim) both suffer.

Sven wouldn't ride that chitty Neutron/Grifo combination (his words not mine  ). His personal mechanic Richard (who happens to be the owner of Dugast) would already have made several new sets of tires for next weeks race to glue to one of 27 sets of DA Carbon hoops sitting in the corner...

Shino, send me the wheels/tires and I'll dispose of 'em for you, we must be sure no one gets hurt on account of a glue failure...

Really? He said it was Frank n Beans? Dewd, if the glue job was krap (esp. at the rim edges) to begin with you'd have a problem. After they are clean and dry re-check the edges you'll be happy no doubt.

lemme repeat. the guy who glued them on did a superb job. i'd have him glue all of my tubulars for me, but I have too busy building me wheels. it's a fine day when you can get your lawyer to glue your tires and build your wheels and not bill you.

i told you i'm 300/hour i've just been too busy to bill you. and that last front wheel was a beast, took lots of time because of the different length spokes and the crummy rim ;)

shino, they glued up well but clean em, dry em (not with a heater blow a fan over them), and check the edges as josh said and if there's any separation i can reglue them but i wouldn't worry about it. i'm sure they'll get you through the weekend fine. we should look at them next fall....if we don't pull the griffos and glue up some cx's for the summer.

Thanks, I'm not worried about this weekend. I was just curious in general since these are my first. I might try to figure out how to glue road tires on this summer:)
Did you guys hear about the racing this January at PIR? Paved/dirt crit? Should I keep riding?

yes heard about it, and you should keep riding but you should morph into winter training, a very different beast (I've got some ideas for you if you are interested), and you shouldn't do those races unless you want to be toast by april.

Cool. If I quit drinking beer I'd loose another 10lbs. I'd get too skinny.

I WONDERED ABOUT the glue because of OUR_FRIEND! HE made this post a while back and of course I remembered it! http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=31996

here here, those tires rock. the new tread is the most versatile ever. i've never seen a tire that rolls so fast hook-up in the mud as well. the FMBs are the best i've used, but the price of the Grifos makes 'em the best bang for the buck by far. I just bought 3 sets last week.
