Dear All,

Is it ok to switch from Mavic ceramic coated aluminum rims (Reflex, Classics Pro,etc.) to regular machined aluminum rims with the same brake pads? Will the ceramic coating on the rims gunk up the pads and cause damage to a regular set of rims?

TIA,

Antonio

No problem, go ahead and do it.

Yes. The ceramic won't (or isn't supposed to) come off.

I think the answer depends on what type of pads you are running.

If you had ceramic specific brake pads, those will work fine with the ceramic rims, but will eat up the regular aluminum rims at a much faster rate. Conversely, if you had regular brake pads, they will work fine with the aluminum rims, but will not last too long with the ceramic rims.

I had regular pads that gone worn down by ceramic rims, and also the other way around with the ceramic specific pads wearing down the aluminum rims rather quickly.

Hope that helps.
