I'd like to run a SRAM 1070 (10 speed) road cassette on a set of Dura Ace 7800 hubs, but I almost think that I remember reading something about 7800 hubs only working with Dura-Ace 10 speed cassettes or something silly. Any one know the deal with this?

I did some searching and failed to find anything. Thanks.

Matt

That's correct. The SRAM Cassettes will not fit on Shimano 10-Speed-specific hubs, only the previous "9-speed" version.

James,

Thanks for the quick reply.

So, I guess the SRAM cassette is out. Will a 6600 (Ultegra) 10 speed cassette will fit on a 7800 (DA) hub without an issue?

Thanks again.

take a close look at the hub body and there is a step that the Sram cassette will not go past...

Yes, I believe it will.

If you are going to be buying hubs, you can get the new 7850 DA rear hub. It marks a return to the lower splined ti cassette body that was used on the 7700 rear hub and is compatible with 10, 9 and 8 speed Shimano cassettes - which I'd assume means it would work with Sram cassettes.

notably there are good deals on the 7800 hubs...
they will take any shimano 10 spd cassette.
da, ultegra or 105...but nothing else

the 7850 will go retro some and take 9spd cassettes or ssram 9/10 cassettes
