Year end mileage?

I am pleased to say I hit 3000 miles this year. That was with much down time with my broken collar bone and a job that only allows me to ride outside on the weekends. I will admit I added my miles from the trainer.

How about the rest of you?

It might be fun to get a forum tally.

I'm riding today, and should just exceed 5,000 miles.

Not to bad for a guy that is out of town Monday thru Thursday & can only ride on weekends, (especially with all the rain we had).

19 Centuries, all but one solo.

Spectrum Bob,

I have 5,771 up until today. Maybe it will total 5800 after Smiley and his group punish me again today. I have a few goals for next season. One is to stay a little closer to the riders in Smiley's group. It has been really wonderful riding with you and becoming your friend this season.

3936 with a ride scheduled for later today.
If it were not for Christmas... I'm sure I'll round up in conversation :)

No centuries; one half-century, 550 miles over 26 rides in July.

Ride strong and have fun!

I only have 2700 miles for the year, I started riding at the end of May on a mountain bike and did not get my road bike till the end of September. I have 1300 miles on my road bike since getting it so the miles have really been stepped up.

Very bad year this was from an output of miles, the first 6 months were all wet and I had many dog issues to deal with. I walked my dog many times in lieu of riding my bike and glad I did just that as I had a many good times with them before they passed on.
I am hoping to get back to my routine 3500 mile output and balance a bit more sailing to go along with cycling during my off-days.

4500 on the road, 600 on the trainer since it got dark. (Well, trainer miles "quality" we won't apply a name to.) Next year I want to double the climbing volume if I can.

Better than the miles was the fun along the way, alone and with pals.

6000 plus or minus is a more typical year, but my back took a very painful vacation in the spring (didn't really get over that until mid-summer) and the weather sucked through about June, so I didn't feel good enough to start riding any long miles until August. Had a great late summer and fall though, with a few good centuries and lots and lotsa metrics, to finish with just a hair under 4000. No major tours this year, just a couple of long weekends. I'm rounding up though because I never count the little trips to the store or around the neighborhood when I'm working on the bikes and need to test ride them or dial something in on one of them.

. . . actually rode 1500 extra miles that his subconscious mind has blocked out because he was riding behind me while I was wearing my Aqua & Sapone zebra outfit!:D

As for me, 3520 miles for the season--my best ever by a long shot and 1000 more than in 2002. That includes my fastest century ever (19.2 av.), at least four metrics, and two MS rides, one of 150 miles over two days, the other 110 miles over two days. I also scored a couple of really big climbs locally that had been personal goals, including Cass Hill Road--23% (Yeah, it hurt.)

Very good year! . . . And thanks to TomfKB2 for many enjoyable rides!

than on a bike this year. Hip Scope in January (they didn't let me back on a bike until June), Ankle surgery in September, and Knee scope in November.

772 outdoor miles. Longest ride was a 90 mile club ride.

Doesn't look like I'll be doing any of the local rides tomorrow and probably no speed skating this winter. Very sad.

I hope everyone has a wonderful riding year in 2004.

Hmmm, time...Biggest problems are strength and balance now. Patellar tendonitis is the big issue, same as right after the accident. Took six months before I didn't notice it after the accident, I suspect it will clear up faster than it did then. So I figure I'll be back to riding in April. I plan on doing TOSRV in May...

If I do the full TOSRV in May, I'll be in line for a 3000 mile year in 2004. Gotta take it easy and ramp up after all.

Of course, the back side to several years off the bike is that I've discovered that I like to do things other than bike.

4030.

Usually between 3,300 and 5,000. I didn't get any centuries which hurts the total but I average mid 40's per ride. You can see I average 2 rides per week over the course of the year. Not too good. Though I took most of September off the train for a hiking expedition in the Steens Wilderness in Oregon. Now that was cool!

2,500+ is my guess....

Computer popped off with a good run-in with a pothole. The sickening sound of plastic and cheap circuitry meeting a car tire was heard as I was turning myself around. I've enjoyed several months computer-free.

Today was glorious, 40+ degrees with 10 mph southerly wind. I got in 40+ miles on the last day of the year.

Tomorrow morning I'm meet the boys (see you there Mikemets) for a new years day ride.

6015 total (55% road/45% computrainer) plus 1,193 miles rowed on Concept II rower. Running and nightly walks with the mutt add up to about another 150 or so. So many aerobic interests, so little time...;)

1,193 miles on the Concept 2? That converts to almost 2 million meters? Is that right? In one year?? I love my Concept 2 but I get too bored to stay on it for very long.

Since I'm retired, I have the opportunity to ride a lot, especially to counter another heart attack and subsequent surgery. For the third year, I've surpassed 8,000 miles, this year hitting 8,032.2 miles indoors (approx. 30%) and outdoors. At age 66 (in January) I have to ride this much to keep up with the whippersnappers. Beats cleaning house.

BumbleBeeDave:

Yes, I know a few of the pros. When I attended Deadly Nedly's wedding reception before he was a pro mountain biker, his mother said she wished he could make a living as a triathlete because he was so good at what he did (he took 30 minutes off the record at the Estes Park Tri back in the late 70s or early 80s. At the time he was first an auto mechanic in Durango and then became a bike mechanic at MBS. Another mechanic in town was Greg Herbold, also a nice guy. Now and then I see Bob Roll, although his travels keep him away a lot. My dentist, now retired, is the father of Travis Brown. Ballantine moved to Ridgeway a year or so ago. Tom Danielson has been featured in the local newspaper along with his fiance, but I haven't had the pleasure to meet them. Another couple that'll be traveling a lot this season. Once in a local shop I met a guy whose name I forget who won the Mt. Evans Hill Climb a number of times. At a season's end party in September I met Ruthie Matthes, a nice person who has probably passed me on the road many times. Pretty humbling to be around these people, let alone the unknowns who are also quite talented in cycling, running, swimming. Next time I want a lot more talent.

2789 Outside road miles, had the usual yearly goal of 3,000 miles but I never make it for one reason or another...got to 2789 and thought I would make it but on Oct 11th (my last ride) I got hit by a car and that took care of the 3k goal. I'm thinking of adding this ritual to all future bike rides.

CIII Bill,
1,926,970 meters to be exact. I did a half-marathon and planned on doing a full one by March 2004. However, the Air Force now requires a 1.5 mile run to test our fitness (it used to be cycle ergometry). As such, I've started a running program so my rowing will be just another form of cross-training. I love cycling but not to the point that it will ever be my only form of exercise.

hurt quite a bit by the long spell of frigid cold nyc experienced last winter and into the spring.

this year was aided by the lack of a real job. since i'm starting a desk job soon, i'm going to have to get militant. the days of three hour, mid-day rides are over, for the time being!

this doesn't count the "around town" miles i put on my track bike. i'd guess another 1800 miles or so. (lemme see... 4.3 miles RT to the bar... x7 nights a week...)

Spectrum Bob here is another 3,623 for your running total. All on a Specialized Alez this year but, before you start booing and sending me hate mail, an order for a CIII goes in as soon as the measurements are done.

I have seen the light, or better yet felt the road.

Kevan is right about low traffic on New Years Day. A friend and I started the year out right with a 43 mile ride on very sunny Nebraska roads at 23 degrees. There are a lot of things you could do on New Year’s Morning but out for a ride with friends is at the top of my list.

Unfortunately, Bob, you can't count to infinity. There isn't enough time.

For all of you who doubt the validity of Spectrum Bob's miles, I can vouch that they are accurate. I just flew back from the west coast and Spectrum Bob was on the same flight. He was riding his bike on the trainer the entire time. He set it up in the aisle. Thats 3500 miles right there from LA to New York. So if he rides just once a week he would rack up 177,000 miles in a year. That also explains why Spectrum Bob always claims to be a member of the Mile High Club. He may be the only member because I don't know anyone else who has ridden a bike on an airplane.
