State Senator William Nickerson, representing Stamford, Greenwich and New Canaan has written a letter to Florida governor Jeb Bush stating his oppisition to the state mandated addition of bike lanes in the renovation of State Road A1A here in Palm Beach County where he owns a winter home. Mr. Nickerson sits on the Conn Senate's transportation committee, please let him know that you support your fellow cyclists in Florida and will base your vote in the next election on his attitude towards bicycles.

Thanks, we are fighting an uphill battle down here against people of wealth and influence to retain rights that have been granted us by the state.

Something else you can do to help, something everybody on this board can do. Send Gov. Bush an email telling him his bicycle unfriendly policy will affect your vacation choice. Tell him you'll take your touro-dollars someplace with a more friendly bicycling envioroment. bush.jeb@myflorida.com

You can also write Florida DOT project manager Jose Abreu telling him how important bicycle lanes on PUBLIC roads are. jose.abreu@dot.fl.us

The oppisition to installing the bike lanes along with the rest of the project is that in order to do so the state will have to use some of the right of way it already owns for the few additional feet of pavement needed. Many of the home owners along the road have (illegally) installed ornate driveways, privacy walls and landscaping on state owned property and do want to accept the states offer to reinstall them behind the appropiate property line as part of the renovation.
