Jared is one of the truly good guys in the local cycling scene. He's done outstanding work at Recycle-a-Bicycle and with the kids' program at Kissena.

This doesn't really bother me much. I know plenty of people who practice much more serious and harmful kinds of dishonesty. I save my hate for them.

I'm certainly not up on many of the "potions" used for PED's. What does it do?

This one seems a rather strange choice:

Is clomiphene for you?
Clomiphene can help you conceive if you ovulate irregularly or not at all, particularly if you have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). (If you have PCOS and this treatment doesn't seem to work for you, your doctor may also prescribe metformin, an insulin-sensitizing drug that can help you respond to clomiphene.) You might also take clomiphene (and other fertility drugs) before you undergo an assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), to encourage you to produce several eggs for the procedure.

Clomiphene can also help men with a hormonal imbalance (that originates in the pituitary gland or hypothalamus) linked to a low sperm count, or poor sperm quality or motility (its ability to move). (For more information about fertility drugs for men, click here.)

I dont know any of the real details about it, and just have heard one side of the story from stuff I read online about this but I watched him with my own two beedy little eyes flat in a race this summer get a new wheel and ride right back up to the field without breaking a sweat? Then proceed to go through the field and win like it was nothing (all solo)? Said to myself at the time wow "I knew he was fast but holy $%^& he is flying". This was a pan flat pretty fast crit type course, not like he made it up in the hills or long event where the field slowed down for a bit type thing?

Makes me wonder who else in this local scene is doing funny things? Also gives even more sympathy for people who actually ride for a living getting beat by cheaters? :crap:

Here is another point of view....because he works with kids his actions should have even more scrutiny.

I bet it's not strictly for performance enhancement...

My guess is they take it to avoid some of the nasty side effects of other steroids.. he probably didn't want to grow boobs or have his nasty bits shrink.

Ask a bodybuilder...

Benb...yup.

I'll loosely quote from someone I personally know who is reproductive biologist and races bikes (see below) on this matter. Not adding fuel to the fire just sayin' I've got no doubt why clomiphene was in his pee.
==============================================

If you are taking clomiphene, you know exactly what you are doing. It basically binds up the body's estrogen receptors, "tricking" it into producing more FSH.
In normal guys, FSH is critical to maintaining your sperm production, which doesn't help you go faster on the bike, but is nice if you and your partner want to have a kid. However, if you've been on an anabolic steroid regime, it will prevent unwanted side effects (breast development) and "jumpstart" your dormant gonads into re-initiating normal function after you come off the steroids. That means getting back to producing both sperm and testosterone.

Pretty much what TT said. Clomid (clomiphene) is typically used as part of a post cycle recovery to get the body's gonads running again, since they are basically shut down during a 'cycle' of anabolics (thus the shrunken change purse..). Nolvadex (sp?) is also commonly used for this sort of thing.
