View Full Version : Paint jobs we know by heart

We all know what Molteni Orange, Faema red and white, Bianchi celeste, e-Richie red, Gios electric blue, and Dario's modern indescribables look like and we recognize them instantly. Are there any other paint schemes out there that you recognize as soon as you glimpse them?

Both Herse and Singer have a signature blue. The Herse blue is robin's egg while the Singer's is close to Gios. All Francophilish randonneur types know these colors. They're examples in my flickr photo batch. When you match the Singer blue to the one piece headtube in chrome, well, it's all that. Legnano has that green too...have a look at my Pegoretti homage to that great look.

I've always thought Serotta's red to yellow fade was thier own celeste. I also really liked both Serotta's and that Eddy guy's 7-11 paint jobs.

At the end of 1987 just about everybody (at least in the UK, Ireland and Australia) got the white, pale blue and red paint job Roche used on his Battaglin.

Zank is about to enter iconic paint schemes. When I take delivery of my new Belgian Classics machine in about a month, you will understand. I'll post a pic if or when I can figure it out.

. . . that IS the iconic paint scheme for titanium. You never--or hardly ever--see bare steel or bare aluminum color schemes. It's like titanium is the Uber-Super-Metal that doesn't need paint!

Greg LeMond's 89 time trial frame. Red main tubes, white fork and rear triangle.

Also, Levi/Raleigh's Team 753 bikes from the mid 80's (Red, yellow/black)

Alexi Grewal's multi colored Pinarello from LA 84 road race

I was thinking of Grewal's LA bike, too.

Plus a lot of the Merckx jobs - Panasonic blue to white fade and a great blue over pearl white with red and green highlights. And the original blue to black Domo paint jobs were great.

Serotta big boy blue is an all-time fav. Plus their half-paint ti is pretty classic.

I miss some pretty paint on my naked ti frame. May have to get it done one of these days...
