Right now I'm running Veloflex Paves. I like them, but they're narrow (harsh) and prone to flats.

What I'm looking for is a tire with tan sidewalls in 25c that is a little more durable and puncture resistant, but doesn't feel slow.

What I really want is Michelin to start making the Pro Race 3's with tan sidewalls in 25c. Is that too much to ask?

I should have mentioned that I think the Continentals are too brown.

I'm thinking about tan, like the Veloflexes.

Picky, picky.

The Avocet Fasgrip I just took off my front wheel was a 25, with over 100 TPI (I think it was 120 tpi) and had a tan sidewall, but I don't know where to get them now.

AE Bike Search (http://aebike.com/page.cfm?PageID=30&action=attributesearch&Category=484&type=T)

put in "tan" for the color and 700c for diameter and take a look.

Panaracer Pasela tires come 700x25 in tan

http://www.panaracer.com/eng/products/index_ur.html#b

The Tour Guard (TG) version has a kevlar belt under the tread,
and it's available in Kevlar bead (folding) as well. The standard
version Pasela is wire bead only.

I commute on the TG's in 28mm, and they're good wearing, good grip
and OK ride quality. I would think that in 25mm, they would be hard.

If i needed a true 25mm tire for a performance application, i'd just
go for the all black Vittoria Corsa CX 700x25, at least until someone
does a real one in tan.

You might be right - I might simply need to go to black tires

All the ones with tan sidewalls are rather bobish.

Hmm, everything looks like a touring tire.

IRC makes a wonderful 25c and 28c tire and while the new ones are black (that's a shame, imho), there are plenty of NOS with tan sidewalls. Call Mike Barry at Bicycle Specialities. He has them.

But not for long!
I was lucky to get a set.....seems that a certain fella from the Finger Lakes has been hoarding them up. ;)

Vredestein Fortezzas are available in 700x25 with tan sidewalls. They have them at biketiresdirect.com for about $30 each. I've got some the Panaracer Pasela TG kevlars in 700x28. They look nice but rolling resistance and weight are considerably more than the Fortezzas. The Panaracers would be the choice, however, if you are seeking excellent flat resistance.

For 700x28 tan tires, you can go Grand Bois Cyres from Jan Heine.

The problem with 700x28 is that many carbon forks can only fit a 700x25 and nothing larger. My experience is my old Kestrel EMS fits a 25, but that it. Similarly, a Reynolds Ouzo Pro barely fits 25s. The Easton SL and Alpha Q sub 3 forks I've tried, could NOT fit a 25mm tire.

None of these forks would fit a *true* 28mm wide tire!

Thanks for all the good suggestions. I'm running an Easton SLX in front, so I can't go too wide.

As anyone ridden the Torelli Torino Open Tubulars? They weigh 230 grams, so they might be durable enough...
