For years I have tried to stay away from Japanese bikes and components, but I recently acquired a (track) bike that came with some Suntour Superbe Pro components (hubset, headset) and these are HOT... I am now curious about the rest of the group... seatpost... what are the differences between the road and track version of the headset and seatpost? Any catalogs that I can peruse online? I wasn't lucky with Google, I did find some photos of components but nothing too specific. Thanks for any help!

Yellow Jersey (www.yellowjersey.org) has online catalogs for all the years of Suntour. They also have lots of small parts and repair stuff.

Suntour Superbe Pro is outstanding equipment. The cranks aren't as stiff as Dura Ace (even 7400 series) but very pretty. The chainrings are some of the smoothest you can find anywhere. The brakes with the hidden springs work well but remember that modern brakes do have more power than stuff from this vintage (Campy/Shimano/Suntour). The derailleurs are the best ever, as are the shift levers. I'd say that Dura Ace 7400 series came close in many respects and exceeded Superbe Pro in a few ways, but Superbe Pro hubs are entirely in a class of their own. Superbe Pro pedals are also best of class -- there's absolutely nothing like them. It's definitely worth putting a group together if you want a retro bike group. In particular, Superbe Pro coincided with the low point of Campy equipment (C-record and thereabouts) so it really offered a better alternative that just didn't make it into the pro peloton.

Buckler and Helvetia/La Suisse rode the stuff. Maybe others.

Too bad they didn't survive.

I have a pair of the internal spring brakes. Never ever ridden. Waiting for the proper bike for them. I have never figured out why Campagnolo didn't adopt something like this 'cuz it really, really looks slick. Very clean lines on the back of the calipers.
